Do you think there would be any interest in a high-performance harmonic damper for our 6.5 diesels? My pulley failed on my 94 and took the engine with it, so I am definately interested in finding a better solution. Also, I think there may be a couple companies either researching the high-performance diesel market for their products or developing new products, so let them know what your requirements are!

I would be interested in one for my truck it would have to work on a '93 6.5.

I think a fluidampr type harmonic would be an improvement on the GM urathane core harmonic. Urathane is made from urine and ethane (I think)which means it's biological material and subject to decomposition. A fluid core harmonic wouldn't suffer this fate because of the physical arrangement of the components. The GM Harmonic is engineered with three concentric circles, two of iron and a doughnut of urathane sandwiched between. This means that the pulley is only as good as the urathane, when it slips, it makes a racket and the lowest pulley on the engine whobbles causing all kinds of vibration.
The fluid harmonic would have one thick ring of steel with a gel core. The gel's not going to wear out inside there.
I had the same GM style harmonic pulley go out on a buick '93 3800 super. There's so little room, I put a breaker bar and socket on the crank bolt and against the crossmember/ framerail and cranked the engine to break the nut. Trucks rule for room to work!Edited by: quantum mechanic
