: My mod changed my mileage by .... How about yours?
chuntag95 03-08-2004, 12:47 PM Just been surfing looking for what mods did what to mileage. I have seen a good 1-1.5 mpg drop when I put on 265s. (Predator correction immeadiatly) I was expecting to break even for such a small change. I do have confounding data as my Allison valve body was replaced and my Transynd was dumped at the same time. I am planning on going back to synthic trans fluid to see if any change occurs.
I saw a .5 mpg increase with the additon of lift pump and filters. Nothing noticed with the Amsoil cushion or any fluid changes. I can't tell on the Predator as sometimes it seems to add .5 and other it loses .5. I tried a friends Quad and at first did not think it did anything or was worse, but the calculator did not agree. I had to give it back, so no confirmation tank. I seem to find that messing with the program takes a couple of tanks to get it settled out for a good reading. The Allison needs to adjust to the power, etc.
What have you found or seen?Edited by: chuntag95
Mr. Mister 03-08-2004, 01:09 PM Keep in mind that your speedo is now off, along with your odo., which means you fuel mileage probably hasn't changed at all. I noticed my speedo is off by about 1.5 to 2 miles an hour which made my fuel mileage worse, but only because the computer thinks i'm not going as far as I really am!!! Edited by: Mr. Mister
chuntag95 03-08-2004, 01:15 PM Oh, I forgot to mention that I recalibrated for the new tires before I left the parking lot using the Predator. I have never run uncompensated. I have no DIC, so all my numbers are via Excel. Even when looking to see if "returning to stock" helps my mileage, I have done the zero tune with the tire adjustment. Might have to go to true stock and do a math adjustment to see if any difference.

Don't doubt for a minute Chris's numbers or he'll whip out a spreadsheet more complicated than several aircraft performance ones that I've seenhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif I hope I'm not that bad. I do have some pretty charts. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif
Pre OEM Cat filter did nothing for mileage. I do have piece of mind and a very dirty filter at 10K.
H2 wheels and tires dropped my straight highway mileage about 1 mpg. Just did a 600 mile trip this weekend, cruise at 72 mph got 19.7 mpg. Mixed driving is more 1.5+ drop. Getting those hogs up to speed takes more fuel.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
Frank Blum 03-09-2004, 09:16 PM chuntag95, are you running winter blended fuel? Later! Frank
CrincoMax 03-10-2004, 03:52 AM I don't believe there is any reason to believe Texas would have mixed fuel, but I could be wrong. I am hoping to see an increase in mileage as soon as the fuel goes straight #2 again.
Sometimes it sucks to be a mile high!

I wish I had that easy scapegoat. Nope. Nothing by high dollar #2 down here. When you don't go below freezing very often, much less stay there for more than a day or two, we don't get winter fuel. I guess it's possible they would slip some in on us, but I'd have no way to know.
Trippin 03-10-2004, 03:21 PM I know this sounds weird but thought I'd chime in here. I never expected my trans upgrade to improve my mileage but it has, 1.5-2 miles per gallon. Has anybody else seen this with a trans upgrade?
GMCSLEHD 03-10-2004, 05:04 PM No mileage gain yethttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif.

Ya know, I thought you were a pretty squared away guy just from talking to you at the LA dyno day. Now you sound like you're smoking crack. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif J/K!
I do believe you, just scratching my head wondering why. Which converter did you get? ATS? Is it a little tighter than stock, maybe that's it.
I recently got about 18.5 - 19mpg on a round trip to LA, probably 1.5 -2 mpg better than usual fwy commute, but it was the first time in ages I ran stock, so who knows what really caused it. Plus unless I get a few tanks with the same numbers, I consider it an anomaly. I've been tracking all fuel mileage, just haven't typed it into the spreadsheet in a while. I'll take a closer look.

To be fair I changed the trans on Thursday .....and installed an AFE stage 2, Banks Big Head Waste Gate Actuator and dynoed the crap out of it on Friday. Then on Saturday I hooked up with you guys for the dyno event and beat the snot out of it again. The Actuator did pump up the boost so maybe that is where the mileage came from. I talked to ATS about it and they said they have heard many customers talk about mileage gains as well. So I attributed it to the trans upgrade. About 1300 miles now since the upgrade and it seems very consistent.
It is an ATS converter.
And for the record....I really enjoyed hanging out with you as well! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Thumbs Up.gifEdited by: Trippin
Max Power 03-11-2004, 12:36 AM To me it would make a bit of sense to get better mileage out of the tranny after the upgrade. After all your getting more power to the ground. More power to the ground = less fuel required to do the same amount of work. To what degree I have no idea. But seems logical enough to me.
