Has anybody ever noticed you alternator guage on start-up?
When I start the truck the guage only shows about 9 amps at first, then it starts to rise slowly up to about 14.5.
Is this a slow load feature or do I have an alternator headed south?http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

That is volts not amps. That is the intake heater keeping the voltage down. When it shuts off, that is when you see your voltage rise. The colder it is the longer it stays on.

How about when you let off the accellerator? When I'm just cruising along 40mph or less probablly and let off of the accelerator my lights dim way down for about 1-2 seconds and then go back to normal. Is this normal?

Jason, I think most all will do it under the right conditions. Mine does, and many others have noticed this also. It seems when the rpm drops to idle the regulator takes a second or so to pick the voltage back up. I wouldn't worry about it.
