I want to do it myself. I dont want to remove all my stuff to take it into the dealer.
Is it just loosen the shackle bolts and re-tighten?
Anyone here done it themselves? I have the plastic spacers already and they chafe and make a grunting noise when the trucks sways side to side. I have to grease the plastic once a month.

my u-shaped plastic spacers on either end are broke, my leafs are not all in line w/ eachother and the clamps on the ends of the spring packs are bent out like v's.. i've been told i can loosen them, (relieve pressure first) align them, compress the clamps back square and tighten..
my leafs were replaced once under warranty and i think my problem is caused because the dealer didn't tighten them properly when they replaced them and they got loose...Edited by: Diesel Power

PC -
I believe that I saw a TSB on resolving noise from leaf slap. Or it might have been an article in a GM TechLink.
Regarding loosening and tightening the shackles, aren't those designed as "one use"? I have been told that if one is disassembled it should be replaced. The nut tweeks the shackle threads. This was from a suspension sales person so it might have been a ploy to sell more stuff.

Heres what the tsb says. Like I said loosen and re-tighten.

Rear Spring Slap or Clunk Noise - leaf suspension #PI00347A - (09/02/2003)
Rear Spring Slap or Clunk Noise
.
When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.
Condition/Concern:
Spring slap (clunk) noise from the rear of the GMT800 series truck. Noise can be heard over road irregularities, speed bumps and potholes.
Recommendation/Instructions:
Loosen the rear axle u-bolts, recording the release torque and re-torque the u-bolts to factory specifications.
Roadtest the vehicle.
If noise is still present, install spring insulators on the leading and trailing ends of the overload spring. The part numbers for these insulators are:
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXX
I have the plastic things already. So I guess I loosen them and re-tighten right?
Has anyone done this yet? Did it work?

I had the dealer put these (http://tommy3z71.homestead.com/spring_insulators.html) on my truck (under warranty). That cured the problem.
