When adding secondary fuel filter, will cutting into fuel line create syphon from fuel tank?

I don't know whether mine siphoned or just gravity drained. But, Diesel fuel ran out til I capped the line temporally. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif My tank was a little over 1/4 full.

Yes it will I had a gallon plus in the frame rail and all over the floor in the time it took me to find a chunk of hose and a bolt!

Haven't done mine yet, but others have said it's best to have the tank quite low and a piece of hose with a plug in it handy....http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

I'd really rather not have diesel running down my arm while trying to debur the line from the tank, so I'm going to run the fuel in the tank down in the next couple of days and get mine put on.

I don't know if our tanks build pressure, but if they do, it would force the fuel out. We might have to remove the fuel cap before cutting the line.? http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

Maybe is just a crazy idea, but could the bleeder be removed on the engine mounted filter, and a shop vac used suck fuel back through the line, and back into the tank? I thought once the bleeder was open, a shop towel and the shop vac nozzel could be held up to the fuel filler and cause enough vacuum to clear out the line. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

Might ask Oldman, he has a "friend" that is trying to find a cleaner to get the disel out of his clothes.

The cleaner has been found. The proper application of oxygen and acetylene works wonderfully!!
