I am waiting for my new toy to arrive and was wondering if I really need to do any intake, exhaust, perfromance, or tranny mods to my new vehicle to successfully haul an 8-9 K travel trailer.
I have been pouring over posts in this forum for the past two days and don't seem to be any closer to a conclusion since I began.
The mods I was looking to perform right off the bat are all Bully Dog mods:
RFI Intake
Rapid Flow Exhaust
Power Pup Triple Dog Outlook ComboFrom what I have been reading, it seems that the tranny is the weak link.
I am going to drive myself crazy until the truck arrives.
Any advice would be appreciated.

I haul for a living and a stock LBZ will be more than enough to pull that. I just pulled a big 14,000 pound fifth wheel and it pulled it like it was a 4000 pound small travel trailer. Now the mods would be helpful with fuel economy, but it would be hard to get the money back in the increase.

:exactly: I think you will be VERY pleased how well it will do in stock form.

Thanks - This helps me quite a bit, and now I can spend that money on something else.
I am used to trailering motorcycles and snow mobiles. When we bought the travel trailer last fall I foolishly took the word of the salesman that..."you won't have any trouble pulling this trailer." That's down hill with a tail wind. As soon as I encounter any kind of up grade I have to get down into 3rd and sometimes 2nd to get up the hill. With the truck's short wheel base the trailer wags the truck and there's a good bit of bucking while traveling the stellar roads in Pennsylvania. Hopefully the longer wheel base will correct this all.
My wife actually suggested I get the new truck since I was so miserable everytime we took the trailer out with my current truck;) .

You won't have a problem at all. Our TT weighs in about 11K lbs loaded and have pulled in the White Mountains of NH and the Green Mountains of VT with no problems. I did put on a Reese WD hitch with HP Dual Cam sway control. With a strong enough side wind, it can push you a little sideways, but the whole rig moves as a single unit since the cams work as a preventative controller/stabilizer instead of a reactive device.

Your 6.0 gas motor is to a Duramax like a 4 cylinder Vega is to a L88 Corvette. I scale in at 34,000 lbs and run my truck stock. I can see no reason to spend money on add ons that will void your warranty. The Duramax starts to do what it was built to do when you get around 22,000 lbs total weight, anything under that weight is a waste of a good motor.

Don't mean to hijack this thread or anything but I am in the same situation. I ordered an LBZ and am trying to get everything together for when it gets here. If I understand correctly, you guys are running completely stock? No additional trans coolers, filters, or anything? I am really curious about the trans cooler. Seems EVERY truck I have had in the past I have had to add trans coolers. Did GM finally get one right and put a big enough cooler in from the factory?
Hi,! Just bot back from Fla., pulling our 5er (my GCVW is 18640) the LBZ handles it with ease. 6th gear almost everywhere it,s "flat". Handled the Smokies with no problem, it held whatever speed I had the cruise set for, and i could accelerate UP the hills! Something my gasser could NEVER do! My truck is stock, except for Transynd in the trans. Hope this helps. CROW):h

Do you need to? no, you will pull that trailer just fine without any mods.
Do you WANT to? Hang around here long enough and you will end up in the Kill Stories section telling about racing furds while pulling your trailer !!
