: trailer air
john@dps 03-07-2004, 05:39 PM does any one here have, some kind of trailer air ride. like trailer air, or kelderman and can you give me your opinion on the version you have. thanks in advance for any help. i guest mor-ryde opinions would be ok to. though they are a short cut to a better ride i might consider them if i can't find any input on air ride. i don't want to spend thousands without research and opinions.

Triffid 03-07-2004, 07:18 PM I have a new Cardnial 29RKLE on the way with a Trail-Air pin box... They also make an air ride suspension:

I've used the pin box before and liked it a lot!!... I met a guy and his wife from Canada this past summer that had both on their Montana... They were full timers and liked it a lot... Hope this helps.........Triffid

I too have the Trailair pin box system on my Mobil Scout 31Ft 3 slide unit. It works very well. It was a serious job getting the old off and the new on. They both weigh a lot and 2 or even 3 people to get the parts off -- on -- lined up and bolted down isn't too much help.
That said I would never pull a 5th wheel again without one.

sycloneGuy 04-21-2004, 08:37 PM Tulsa, Do a search here

Just type in the brand, and read away.

Triffid and Bob;
I have the Trailair pin box on my truck (see sig) and use a B&W Companion hitch. It resolved the up and down bumps but replaced it with a terrible fore and aft jerk. Do either of you experience any of that? I tow a big fifth wheel with about 2800" pin weight.
aljolleyjr 04-22-2004, 11:46 AM I pull a 35 ft. Big Sky with an 04 GMC CC Dually and i also have the Trailair pin box and it really dose help, The 5er just floats along on the hitch.
sycloneGuy 04-22-2004, 05:34 PM Zeke,
I remember reading a thread on that subject about two months ago on rvnet. I think the solution had something to do with leveling the 5er, but can't be sure. Try a search.

Dave;
I went there and looked for 1/2 hour and could not find any reference to any problems with the Trailair except one on bolt tightening. If you can, I would appreciate the URL.
Thanks; Zeke
sycloneGuy 04-23-2004, 10:58 AM Zeke,
Didn't mean to lead you astray. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif The conversation I read concerned the fore and aft jerking that you described, but it wasn't TrailAir Hitch Pin specific. Solution had to do with trim(height) adjustment. Time is sort of limited right now, but I'll look for it this weekend and post results. Have you tried an e-mail to TrailAir?
Good luck,
Dave
Dave;
Yes, I emailed both Trailair and B&W (Hitch manufacturers). I have heard back from both and have received 2 bags from Trailair, 1 larger and 1 smaller to try to see if that helps. They sent them out really quick at no charge and just asked that I send back whatever I am not using. I also explained my probability of going to the Kelderman rear 2 bag suspension on the truck and he suggested I keep the bags until then and try each one to get the best solution.
That's great service! I bet if I was close they would have done this all at no charge for me. I am thinking of going with their trailer suspension but need to save some sheckles before I go there. I just got done spending a couple thou extra on this new truck and need to recuperate the bank account (not to mention cool off the boss!). Boy, it's entirely too easy to spend money on this thing!
BTW - The trailer is about 1" low at the rear of the truck bed compared to the front. Not too bad but I still want more clearance (6" now) and am at the highest setting for the trailer suspension (physically lowest holes). The Centerpoint trailer suspension can add an inch or more.

sycloneGuy 04-23-2004, 08:56 PM Zeke,
Glad you're on your way to a solution. One thing everybody said on that RV site was that Trailair has totally top notch costomer service. Yours is just one more story that says they will get my money when I take the plunge later this summer.
Good Luck and Happy Travelin,
Dave
Son of a gun 05-04-2004, 04:48 PM Zeke,
My king pin is about 2300# and I don't have any front to rear action that I can decern. My trailer is level front to back (had to go all the way down on the Jake plates to do that).
Good luck,
Bob
