: Questions on mirrors and interiors
TEXMudder 03-07-2004, 01:27 PM Ok guys, I am completely new to the Silverado world. I am looking at a 2500 Crew Cab 4x4 SRW with the Duramax/Allison combo. In trying to figure out what I want, I had some questions. Keep in mind that I havent been out to the lots so some of these are basic questions.
Is Homelink in these trucks? I cant find any mention.
On the dash to the right of the HVAC controls and under the vent there is a sectoin that looks to have three panels in it. One is for airbag on/off. What are the other two for?
I'll title this next section "Mirror Hell". The brocure I have lists three mirrors.

accordian style telescoping ones - http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/uploads/78Z_DCP_0422.jpg
more trailer ones - http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/uploads/366_Image105.jpg
When I look through the huge post with tons of pictures here I found all these that I dont see listed:

Can anyone tell me which of these mirrors correspond to any of the pictures above? Anyone have any mirror suggestions? The brochure and online custom builder are clear as mud.
Hmm... You've got a list.
I'll try to help with some of it.
1. Homelink = Nada... It's my understanding that while this is still an option for the SUV's, they dropped it on the trucks for '04. They're available aftermarket, but about $375.00 for the console and transmitter.
2. Air bag On/Off = That only comes on the Extended and Regular cab trucks, not an option on the Crew Cab. Federal standard of some sort. As for the other panels, I think they are just fillers for the dash.
3. Mirrors = There are quite a few aftermarket mirror manufacturers. As far as I know, the three you have listed are one short. IIRC, there is a stainless option much like the old camper style mirrors that have to be installed when the truck arrives. I got the power extending mirrors, but they do not come with the convex mirror on the right side, another Fed something or other rule. The non-extendable mirrors have the convex passenger side, but are not interchangeable with the extending mirror for the glass according to one member.
I really like the extendable mirrors for towing, and you can move them up or down to visualize the trailer, but a convex glass would be much better for going down the highway. I've bought some small aftermarket convex mirrors which attach to the top of the factory mirror housing, not perfect, but better.
Some of the members have different aftermarket setups and can tell you about them, all I've dealt with is the factory mirrors.
Good luck and welcome to the forum...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif
Bronco 03-07-2004, 04:37 PM Hello,
My truck came with the optional OSRV retractable camper style power mirrows w/turn signal and heat. 238.00$
They are the big black ones with the accordion stlye cowl.
The are both flat. The passenger mirror has a huge blind spot. Easily fixed with a stick on convex. The do extend very far and allow viewing all the way across the back of the truck. However they do shake at highway speeds. The image is unviewable sometimes.
I emailed Power vision services ( they make the mirror) They told me to contact GM because they only share patents with GM and are not responsible. GM can only replace but not fix? I noticed on power vision services website they have the exact same mirror for sale . It is about 495.00. They also claim that it is new and improved and more stable.
That comment sort of addmits resposibillaty if you ask me. Oh well, I am getting use to it. Prepared for prison by GM.
TEXMudder 03-07-2004, 06:01 PM Well a trip to the dealer only confused me more now. I saw three different mirrors. One is the manual pull out for a camper that was on a work truck. The other two were the accordian and the regular black one. None of them were color coded and neither of the last two had anything other than normal mirrors (no convex etc).
The other thing I noticed that was drastic is some trucks had color coded fender flares and molding, while others had black. I looked at the stickers of these and couldnt find anything that stated either was an option. How can I know which one I would get if I was to order?
Do any of these trucks have rear sway bars? I know for a Ford you have to order a camper package, but I dont see that in the brochure. I didnt see one on any of the trucks I looked at.
TEXMudder 03-09-2004, 12:47 AM Anyone?
sfischer 03-09-2004, 01:38 AM TEXMudder, take a look at this website:
http://eogld.ecomm.gm.com/NASApp/domestic/proddesc.jsp?year=2004&butID=1&regionID=1&division ID=1&vehicleID=302&type=0#
Select the type of truck configuration you're looking for first. You can gain a lot of info. here. Look under RPO (the coding for everything ordered) and you may be able to decipher some of the differences in the outside mirrors.
I have my new truck ordered with the DPF outside mirrors.
Hope this helps, rather than further confuses.Edited by: sfischer
Well as I see it, you've got a couple of problems here.
1. This particular forum is not really well watched so the number of responses is going to be a little more limited.
2. You're touching on some subjects that have been beat to death before in the mirrors and matching fender flare questions.
I'll try and give you a couple of ideas, but you ought to do a few searches on the site for the threads about some of these things, and perhaps get on one of GM's web sites and try to go through the order/build process to see what you come up with. There are so many packages and certain things are interdependent on each other.
There are basically the three styles of mirrors you've seen as I said before, plus there used to be at least in November when I ordered mine, a stainless camper set that's manual like the really older style mirrors that you had to flip after moving them out. I never saw even a picture of those let alone a set on a truck. You won't get color matching. I don't think even the stainless front mirrors are available on the pickups anymore, just like the Homelink. As for the convex mirrors, one of the members has chased this silly and according to another member, there is a new Federal reg concerning towing mirrors that prohibits convex glass. So the last I heard, it was still available on non towing mirrors, but one of the members who got his truck in September, broke a convex mirror and the only replacement he could get was flat. So they may not be available at all anymore. Then add in the aftermarket stuff and you've got a whole new can of worms with the choices available in mirrors. There are so many it boggles my mind....http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif
The matching fender flares issue was beat up and down for weeks and I'm not sure there was an definitive answer. But the gist of it was that to a large extent it depends on whether or not you get one of the upgraded cabs. It also depends on what color, some of the reds as I recall don't come color matched. There was some information suggesting that even with trucks which would not have matching flares, a special order code could be put in by the dealer in order to get them. That takes cooperation from the dealer and it's not as easy as it sounds here.
There are no factory sway bars that I know of. My Dooley has just about everything you can get and it doesn't have one. Some of the members have installed aftermarket sway bars and there are threads about those. I don't remember the brand name, but I looked on their site after reading the thread and the bars are really beefy. Much bigger than anything I've ever seen from a factory.
Again, try some searches and see what you get. If you can't come up with some of those threads, maybe I can help you find them, and check the GM web sites both Chevy and GMC. I found the Chevy site to be confusing compared to the GMC site, and both trucks have the same options and color codes.
Hope this helps....http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gifEdited by: Zeeb
srode 03-09-2004, 07:24 AM In '04 there aren't any color matched mirrors, or chrome ones, only black. The trailer mirrors that power extend won't fold back and don't have memory positions for 2 different drivers. The regular power mirrors have fold back and memory positions. Both are heated and have integrated turn signals. There may be another standard set of mirrors that don't have either memory or power extend but I didn't research those when I got mine. Personally, I think the power extend mirrors work fine for towing if you have something wide you need to see around, they are pretty stable and have a good view. I wish I had the memory positions though, the wife get's the mirrors in a way different position when she drives it!
Zeeb, Where can you get the home link aftermarket? Edited by: srode
srode,
Here's a link for JP Customs:

Seems spendy at $375.00, but it's less than the stealer wanted and there are about 12 different listings in the GM parts book for these things...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif
TEXMudder 03-09-2004, 11:04 AM Guys, thanks for helping me here. I have been searching both this forum and the 62-65 one for about a week trying to find all my answers. Those searches did answer a lot of questions, but I still had more.
sfischer, that order guide was absolutely what I needed. I couldnt for the life of me find that. Thats what I am used to after ordering my Ford.
I did find a few posts about the fender flares. Heck one even listed out the color of truck that came with color coded flares. The silver truck I looked at has silver flares. I would really like to see that same truck with black flares as I think it would look better.
I plan to do a 24 hour test drive this weekend and I cant wait.
TEXMudder 03-09-2004, 02:57 PM I got this from that order guide posted above:
models that have black flares:
WT
base
black
sport red
victory red
blue metalic
all others have color coded

Thanks Zeeb, not sure I want to spend that on it just yet, but if I do, at least I know where to look!
TEXMudder 03-10-2004, 01:03 AM Well, I got my official buy back letter from Ford. I hope to go Friday night get things ready to order a Chevy. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
