: shift lock
chadsalt 01-14-2006, 11:08 AM are we suppose to have to step on the brake pedal to shift out of park, etc with the allison??? i dont have to on mine(04 2500hd D/A), it was used when i got it. i just ass-u-me-d it would be the same as most other newer vehicles, is it broken?
lakingslayer 01-14-2006, 02:36 PM According to the manual you don't need to put the brake on to shift out of park. I've always done it since all my previous vehicles needed the brake pressed to shift out of Park.
sled_mack 01-14-2006, 02:49 PM I don't have to touch the brake on mine to get it out of park. Sort of figured that out by accident a few weeks ago.
I can't say it is supposed to work this way, just that mine does.
jmg343 01-14-2006, 04:35 PM Just went out and checked mine because I thought I knew the answer but wasnt positive. Well, I was right. I must apply the brake in order to shift out of park. Could it be another stupid california mandate?
Max Power 01-14-2006, 05:12 PM I have to apply my break as well. I would say there is something wrong if you don't have to.
oteo125 01-14-2006, 07:11 PM i also have to apply brake
chadsalt 01-14-2006, 07:31 PM damn. between this, the back up lights for the trailer, and the steering rattle.....guess i have to schdule an appointment at the moron, oops i meant dealer. thanks guys.
jmorgan 01-14-2006, 07:42 PM Brake has to be depressed on mine too for shifting out of park. That safety was added mid '04 I've heard. Nothing wrong with it really.
DURAtotheMAX 01-14-2006, 07:46 PM When the key is in "ACC" you dont have to apply the brake to shift for some reason. When its "ON", you have to apply the brake. At least thats the way it is in my truck....

Check your fuses.
For my 2002, Fuse B/U LP Fuse 25A, (located in Fuse Block-Underhood), supplies +12V to B/U Lamps on truck, B/U Lamps on trailer, Inside Rearview Mirror, (might defeat nighttime dimming???), the B/U Alarm (if used), and the A/T Shift Lock Control Solenoid.
Reference Helms 2002, pages 7-170, 8-45, and 8-309.
Can't link the fuse to you rattle issue though.
modified 01-14-2006, 10:30 PM The A/T Shift Lock Control Solenoid should be energized to lock column, with truck in Run or Start, Transmission in Park, and the brake peddle NOT depressed. This can be measured +12V at DK GRN/WHT wire at Stop Lamp Switch, with three previous conditions met.
+12V supplied from B/U LPS Fuse 25A, through NSBU Switch to BTSI Fuse 10A, through Stop Lamp Switch, to A/T Shift Lock Control Solenoid. Ground G203 is on driverside top of dash.
Both fuses in Fuse Block-Underhood.
Reference Helms 2002, page 7-170.
modified 01-14-2006, 11:34 PM Found your B/U Light problem posted in "Ask the Techs".
You stated a recent Prodigy installation. It's likely related to, (or generated), your problems.
Max Power, can you confirm or correct info below?
