What is the standard cetane rating of the diesel we buy? The station where I get it just put new stickers on the pump saying 45 cetane.

Thanks

Good question cuz the pumps in Delaware have no rating at least the ones I have seen

Most of the pumps here do not say anything, but the local sheetz just put 45 on theirs.

hess puts 43 on their pumps. I am sure rating will change once the gov standards for diesel go up

higher the cetane rating the rating the faster it is able to combust so when the injectors spray fuel it is able to combust faster and that means you don't need as much timeing so the injsectors are able to spray the fuel in the cylinders closer to TDC.

:confused:

I was curious about what exactly the Cetane rating WAS in comparison to Octane rating, but now I'm more confused.

So Higher Cetane is the same as or OPPOSITE of Higher Octane?

can anyone clear this up?

Cetane is a measure of the ignition quality of a diesel fuel. The higher the Cetane Number, the shorter the delay between injection and ignition. The higher the cetane number the lower the octane number. The desirable property of gasoline to prevent knock is the ability to resist autoignition, whereas for diesel, the desirable property is to autoignite.

Then why not just use "low-octane" diesel?

Makes sense....

Cetane=Anti-Octane:D
