: Vacuum servo on turbocharger

On the passenger side of the turbocharger, there is what looks like a vacuum servo. It is connected to the turbo intake duct by a rubber hose, and pushes/pulls on a rod that goes back the the exhause side of the turbocharger. It looks like it must be driven by the pressure or vacuum present in the turbo's air intake. What is this? Since the turbo is considered a single component, the service manual says nothing about it other than 'if it's broken, replace it'.

I think you might be describing the Wastegate Actuator.

Thanks for the answer. I'm really surprized that on an engine where everything is so highly computerized that there would be such a 'dumb', primitive system to control something.

The LLY with Variable Vane turbo doesen't have a wastegate actuator setup ....
