Been hearing some talk about Scangauges. Went to their website to check it out. Seems like it's a pretty good deal, has a lot of features at a reasonable price. What I'm wondering is if it does every thing they say it does, how easy it is to use, or if there is a better alternative to monitoring engine status and clearing fault codes?

I have one, does everything they claim it will do, real happy with it. The only downside is that the housing they put it in is a little bland looking, utilitarian and functional, but bland. For what it does seems like a good price. I got it because I don't have the steering wheel controls and wanted readout of mpg, gallons to empty etc. which it does great. The good side is that it can be adjusted to give correct readout for fuel useage with programmers installed. Basically, you run it to empty, fill it up and enter the number of gallons used. I find it within a few tenth of a gallon consistenty. So far haven't had any fault codes to read. It does have some readouts that the DIC doesn't have, for instance %engine load, direct readout of IAT, turbo boost, water temp from the sensors rather than the guages (which are notoreously inacurate). The other nice thing is you can swap it to (almost) any vehicle that has an OBDII port.

Finally bought a Scangauge. It works fine on my '97 Cavalier. Went to hook it up to my Dmax and it worked for awhile, then the Security light came on, the scangauge shutdown and the truck shutdown. Could not get it restarted until I disconnected the scangauge. After I cycled the key, the Security light went off, and the truck ran fine. Tried the scangauge again, and it did the same thing, works for about 15 min, then security light comes on. Anyone else run into this?
