the dealer wants $32,000 for it. is that a good price for it? It was a one owner car bought in 8/04 and it has 35,000 miles on it . I took it for a ride, my first time driving a diesel, It seemed to shift rough like a strong jerking motion. Is that normal?

Diesel?

Crew cab, extended cab, or regular cab?

Option package?

The Allison shifts hard. It is a heavy duty transmission which means it will not shift as smooth as a regular transmission. I'm assuming then it does have a Duramax/Allison.

Seems to me it may be a little high? Input everything you know about the truck at: www.kbb.com (http://www.kbb.com)

KBB came up $35,600

I would do two things:

1. Have them check out the transmission & give you a year's warranty on it.

2. Offer them $30,000, IF they will warranty the transmission for a year.

If you know someone who owns a DMax, you should have them drive it to see if there is really an issue with the transmission or not. Granted they do not shift quite as smooth as other transmissions, but it should not be kicking you in the rear either.

KBB came up $35,600

If the KBB retail price is $35,600, then 31,999 seems to be a pretty good price. Get one of the guys here to run the VIN to see what repairs if any has been done to it.

this is the vin, 1GCHK33274F243240

I guess you can say that it shifts firm.

I have an 05 chevy silverado ls crew cab 6.0 short bed the dealer said he would give me $21,000 trade in , It is 7 months old, 9200 miles on it sticker was $38,500. I told him he would have to do alot better. I felt like telling him to ***k off.

tHE KBB FOR MY TRUCK IS 26,500 TRADE in value
THE KBB for the 04 3500 is 27,500 trade in value
so 1,000 difference in the two trucks

That trade in value makes this deal highway robbery.

I only paid 36.400.00 on a brand new 05 3500 DRW.... Loaded!

Your truck is almost out of the 36000 mile warranty period. Another red flag , for me, is not many people traid in theses trucks with that low mileage UNLESS something has been giving them problems, such as overheating or injectors...

You might try to get the owner's name a call him. I sell my truck almost every year with about 35,000 on it. If I sell it myself, it is a great truck with no problems. If I wholesale it to dealer (haven't needed to do than but once or twice, a long time ago), it is a problem vehicle. I sold my 05 3500 CC LWB 4X4 D/A LT LOADED with 35000 miles on it in August for $34,000. It actually got bid up from $32,000 because several people wanted it. It was (and is) a GREAT truck. Your price seems high to me for this time of year. Available occasionally for $29,000 to #20,000 in the West.

I had and 04 SRW, with low milage and traded for an 05 DRW, and I think a lot of guys traded from 04 to 05 because of the GM discount program. For me I went up to a DRW and a year newer for 3k, an offer I couldn't refuse. And my 04 was immaculate and I hated to get rid of it. Infact it was running better with 20k miles on it than new.
The tranny gets used to the driving style of the owner, if it's been on the lot and had a lot of tire kickers test driving it, that may be it. My 04 shifted smooooth.

Maybe shifts rough because the tranny hasn't had a chance to relearn since the tuner was removed???????

I was thinking the same. Also, I wonder if the dealers are reflashing these trucks when they come onto the lots? These changes could affect tranny shifting as well, especially if it is in the learning mode. JJ :)

So from what I can read you just want to get a long box? Sounds like he's really low-balling you for your trade-in unless there is something about it that warrants the decreased value.

For what it's worth, my 05 D/A auto shifts so smooth I'm still amazed. Love this truck! :ro)

Good Luck!

I dont want a long box, I want the increase in payload capacity, and I really don't want a duelly. I drive one at work alot.
this is really for a 5th wheel camper for next year.
the 2500hd cc da payload is like 2230 lbs. my 6.o gasser is 3185 lbs.
the 3500 cc da swr is around 2680 lbs.
so looking at the talk in the forums it looks like alot of people with 2500's anf 5th wheelers are overweight. the camper I am looking at has a pin weight of 1700 lbs.

I also traded my 2004 '6.0 gasser' for my diesel. You'll probably only get about 3 more mpg.

The 1700 lbs is just about right for a 2500HD... thats what my last trailer had... My last trailer was 10,000 lbs and 1700 on the pin, when loaded...
I screwed up and bought another trailer wiout really checking the pin weight and had to get a one ton to make the weight numbers work out well.. I did trade in my 04 with 24000 miles. It had no problems so it would have been a good deal for someone... I got 27,800 on the tradein..

My 01 had 74000 miles, three sets of injectors and a "NEW" knock that I could hear after running 300 miles with a leaking injector... Dealer took it in trade on the 04 and I am sure it's being driven around by some uninformed new owner :(

If your getting a short bed add a supperglide hitch to it and you will be " In tall Cotton" :)
