I have a problem with my son's chevy. He just had a Jasper reman 6.5 installed. Since then the tranny will not go into OD until it is hot. It didn't so this before the engine switch.
On another topic, can we change the tranny fluid like a Ford (sorry) by disconnecting the cooler return line and using the engine to pump the fluid into a bucket then adding the fluid a few quarts at a time? Also how much fluid does the tranny hold in a '95 4 speed auto? Works well on my blue oval, what about the chevies?
Thanks.

mine won't shift to o/d until warm. something to do with the water temp sensor. i read about it on other threads as well.

not entirely sure but it should be near the thermostat.

The ECM won't allow the tranny into OD until the engine reachs about 170F I think it is. It is supposed to be that way. Now if it's not going into OD until 190 or something then you have a problem. Most all manufacturers do this to prevent trans damage or lugging the engine on warm-up.

Not a good idea. There are bearings that are lubricated with the return oil and they can be damaged. GM actually has an oil cooler flow specification for just that.

Are you sure it's not going into OD and the torque convertor just isn't locking up until it's warm? I'm pretty sure that's what I notice on mine.

That's a thought. I don't drive it but I will check it when we change the CTS. It was only 10 bucks, so thought we would give that a try first.
