I just got a 2004 and was planning on using the Cipas that I had on my 2002. Now, I don't know about any of the wiring on the 2003, but I was told by both Cipa and Chevy not to try hardwiring my old Cipas into my new truck. Chevy told me that, because of the electronics involved, I could fry a computer module that runs the mirrors and that some computer might have to be reprogrammed to retrofit the Cipas.

Anyhow, I'm just passing on what I've been told. I don't guarantee the accuracy.

I got the CIPA Extendable's with electric and heat for my 2003 2500HD. Are these the mirros you are talking about? The mirrors came with a little brochure that specified which wire on the mirror to connect to the mirror hardwires on the truck. I originally had the GMC standard heated/electric mirrors. These mirrors didn't fold or have the memory. As a result, they were hardwired as you mentioned above. If you didn't get this brochure, contact CIPA or PM me and I'll try to find it.

Let me clairify. I am talking about the Cipa electric, heated extendable morrors. My 2002 was a LS and came with electric, heated power mirrors. The plug for the mirrors was where you mounted the mirrors in the door. Easy install!!

The 2004, which is an LT, came with these tricked out mirrors that have the turn signals built into them. They will also fold at the press of a button, tilt down so you can see the curb when you put it into reverse and are part of a driver memory system that adjusts automatically for two drivers.

I've been told that the plug for the factory mirrors is inside the door by some mirror computer module and these factory mirrors have more wires than the Cipas because they do more tricks.

I don't need all the tricks stuff. I'd be perfectly happy if I could just use my old Cipas or buy some new ones that would work without damaging anything on my new truck. I've been told that if all the factory mirror wires were not hooked up, there might be come computer error codes and there could be some electronic damage if I were to hard wire in the old Cipas.

In talking with Cipa, they don't seem to currently have the technology for "plug and play" mirrors for my particular application.

I believe you will have problems with replacing the OEM folding mirrors. That model also has memory of the mirror position that goes with the seat memory. StylinConcepts told me that the CIPA's would not work with that option. Since I had just the basic electric/heated mirrors, though, there was a 1-to-1 match-up with the wires.

Update!!!!!!!!!!!

In looking around on the net and talking with various people, I learned that Magna Donnelly actually makes the mirrors for Cipa. They also make some of the mirrors used by GM.

I Sent MD emails and called them, leaving voice mails. About a week later, I was contacted via email by Patrick Graham(616 844-8141).

I contacted Patrick and he was very knowledgable and helpful. He advised that I could use the Cipa heated, electric, extenddable towing mirrors on my 2004 Silverado. He said that he would mail me(for free) a wiring harness that would plug into the factory harness inside the doors of the truck. He said that I would have to cut the plug off my Cipa mirrors and splice(color to color) the wires from the harness to the wires from the mirrors.

He then advised that I would have to get my truck's computer reprogrammed by a dealer for the plain old electric/heated mirrors(model DL8).

I contacted a couple of Chevy Dealers and was advised that this would work. They said it "might" void the warranty coverage on the mirror electronics of the vehicle, but that they could and would adjust the computer. They absolutely will not get involved in the installation or wiring of the Cipa mirrors because they are not "factory Authorized Equipment".

So, after I install and wire the Cipas and get the Dealer to do his thing on the computer, I'll check back with you guys and let you know how or if it worked.

I would suggest that you contact Patrick for further info and help with your particular situation.

Hope this helps!!!!,

Ron
