ZF6 Guys;

It seems like such a long time to get out the product I started to solve a handshaker's PIA. But now it is finally complete. Production may take time an there may be future business/production problems (jeez, this world always has problems!) However;

I sold the first kit to Jay in MN and he installed it (actually a shop did) last Friday. He already has ~200 miles on it and it is working fine. He plans on putting another ~800 miles before he turns his new Banks 6 up to test.

There are several other orders received which I forwarded to SBC, and more comming. Peter at SBC has been able to get the the CNC shop going and the flywheels are coming out now.

Those of you having long term DMF problems, I would like to get your orders on the list before other distributors do so, that way you don't have to wait even longer.

Let me know.!

Good Luck and Good Power!!!!

Ben;

I just sent you an email on that subject.

SoCal;

They are already working on the SMF for the single disc kit. Due the the space that the whole kit must fill, the single disc kit needs to be redesigned since it does not inclued a center/floater plate and only one disc. The flywheel for the single kit will have to be thicker. My guess (oh boy) is that they are milling the first flywheel and once they can prove that it works they will change over to a cast flywheel. Peter has a lot of work (other than just Duramax products) to focus on. Once he gets the DDC kits going so he doesn't have to watch them then he will have more time to focus on the SDC kit. I also know he has a couple other products he is currently working on and he gets about 100 phone calls a day!

All ZF6 Guys;

It occurred to me after the previous post that I should remind anyone interested in an SBC kit that there will be some differences compared to stock that you should be aware of so you are not supprised (like I was when I got the other SMF kit):

The DMF has about 8 springs inside it to absorb the diesel spike that is noticable at low (idle) rpms. The SMF has no springs (single mass!) so the diesel spike at idle passes through the flywheel and clutches and pressure plate to the transmission input shaft. Idling in neutral, with the clutch pedal out, you will hear, on all SMFs, the engine rattling some components inside the ZF6. When you push the pedal in the pressure plate releases the engine from the transmission input shaft and the diesel spike does not connect with the transmission. This is normal and ZF has stated that this will not damage the transmission:

post#15.

If you have observed some of the SMF/DDC pics you will have noticed the center floater plate that seperates the two clutch discs. With the engine running and the pedal in, the pressure plate has released the clutch discs. The flywheel, center floater plate, and the pressure plate are still spinning at the same rpms as the crankshaft (engine). However, the clutch plates will be spinning at a different rpm depending on the speed the truck is moving and if the shifter is in a gear. The spline hubs are what hold the clutch plates to the transmission input shaft. So with the clutch plates spinning at a different speed than the flywheel, center plate, and pressure plate, there is a bit of noise when the pedal is pushed in.

The noise is noticable but not real loud and does not indicate damage or failure. The plates in this kit are made of steel. Steel makes a bit of noise as it rubs on other steel. This is not a squeal and is not due to launching (or starting slowly). It is kind of a "whisk" sound as the 4 different connection "planes" are spinning fast and just barely touching. Once the pedal is released, the pressure plate squeezes everything together which provides the great strength for the truck to transfer a lot of power from the engine to the wheels.

My guess is that as the kit gets broken in this sound may change as the plates get smoother.

These are not significant changes but they are noticeable compared to the stock kit and what you are used to. Both Fords and Dodges have had to deal with DMF kits. They have had the same stock problems that we do and many have changed to SBC SMF kits. They will have the same kind of changes that I noted above.

I just posted this because I want potential customers to understand and feel free to ask questions instead of getting suprised because they were not told about changes.

I should also remind you that I have completed installation instructions. These are forwarded once a kit is ordered. Several guys have reviewed them and so far I have only received a couple questions so I suspect that the instructions should be pretty clear.

Hope this is helpful.
