boy i sure feel stupid right now, i was positive the truck i had was a 98, never looked at my reggie or insurance slips, just got back from gm so i could do a vehical history report on warrenty work to see if the block was ever changed cuz ya'll made it seem like a 98 is a trouble block, the damn thing's a 97, sold dec 96 so i guess i desserve this :iamwithst lol, live and learn. thats what i get from listening from the sales man. All in all, everything else with its good. the 97 had a better block didnt it? or is there still a chance of a 509?(i think thats the bad block cant remember)
as always all your help is apreciated

There is a good chance you have a 141 block. The 97 and up vehicles had the 506 blocks, early 97's(96 build) may still have a leftover 96 141 block. The early 506 blocks(97 and all 98's) were the most failure prone of all of the blocks. Check your oil cooler lines for a quickie check, the 141 will have 1/2" oil cooler lines and the 506 will have 5/8" oil cooler lines. This is not a guarantee, but if it is the origanal engine then it will tell the story.

Try buying parts for a 00 pickup, most places tell me theres no listing for that year, i always just tell em to give me the 99 parts.

Rigger,

That's funny. I've got a '99 and have to tell people to look up a '98. At Pep Boys I've even had to tell them I've got a GMT-400, as opposed to the current 800 line.

97 is the 1st year 506 block, don't mean to rain on your parade though..

But not all of the 97's got the 506 block, many of the early production(those actually built in 96) got the 141 block. Seen some 97's with the 141 block, that is how I know. This is also the reason why most say the 98 model year was the worst for block failure since all 98's got the early 506 block with the casting problems.
