Don't know for sure but I think you have a LLY motor , check the HP and torque rating on the window sticker if its 360 or says LBZ then I am wrong , I hope I am wrong??

Look at the manufactor date on the inside of the drivers door that should they explain it to you. I think that the date is in the upper right hand corner of the sticker. Sorry about the bad news. Could be alot worse you could be driving a Ferd or a Doodge...

They didn't start building LBZ's till like September, so all the early 06 Trucks are LLYs. The window sticker is correct 305/605.

It should be 310/605. I wouldn't worry too much about it. I really like mine, and it runs good. If you get any kind of programmer for it it will bump it up to lbz power levels anyway.

Yep, they sold you an LLY. You absolutely have to be prepared when talking to the stealer. They won't tell you anything unless they think you want to hear it and will never ask anything unless they believe they already know the answer. Personally, I love mine. If you want the LBZ, you better talk to them real fast about it.

Look at it this way , the LLY is proven , It seems the Overheat problem is corrected on the 06 and the hot rod parts are available for the LLY and only a few for LBZ , I was hoping for your sake I was wrong but I thought I had read some threads on this earlier here. Enjoy your new truck!!!! I like the way my LLY performs .

What part of the VIN indicates an LBZ motor?Truck on!!!

8th digit of the VIN will be a "D" for the LBZ, on the LLy it will be a "2".

If Ur Eigth Digit In Ur Vin # Is The Letter D It Is A Lbz.

I agree. The LLY is a proven motor. However, when paying a certain amount for a truck that you thought was LBZ, I totally understand. I ordered a LBZ. If They gave me a LLY, I would be ticked. When you spend $40k, I would want what I thought I was buying. There were better incentives for LLY. See if you at least got the LLY rebate/financing. There could be a couple thousand $$$ diff in financing or rebate to go to LBZ. Even if the dealer were willing to swap it out, you still might have to pay more.

How do you spend that kind of money, and dont even know what your ordering :duh: . Most people at least would have checked before leaving the dealership. The info is all over the paper work and or sticker :banghead: :idiot: oh well good luck to you anyway..

Enjoy your new truck!!!! I like the way my LLY performs .Well, in actuality the 06 lly is a completely different animal than the 04-05. It is mechanically the same as the lbz except it doesn't have the same programming. It does however have the same compute so the old lly programmers won't work on it, but the new lbz programmers will. What is good about that is you can get the bully dog power pup and put it on the economy setting and get a 50 hp boost and any other power rating you add 50 hp to whatever it gives the lbz.:cool2:

You have to watch those salesman. When I bought my LBZ they tried to sell me a black LLY. That truck had sat on the lot for about a month. As a matter of fact I drove the balck truck on a test drive. I thought if the LBZ is any stronger than that I would relly be impressed. I said no thank you, go get me a Graystone Metallic One with the LBZ. Then they told me that I could get more off on the price due to a greater rebate for the LLY. I told them that I knew that but give me the cotton picken LBZ.
I actually felt like I was more informed on those trucks than the salesman was. They day that my truck arrived at the delearship I went outside to verify that they had indeed got me a LBZ. She is a beauty.

JOSH, do some research , you have some misinformation on the differences between the LLY and LBZ

This issue has been talked about so many times and we still cant seem to get a straight answer (on whether or not the 2006 LLY has the lower CR, beefed up mains, strengthened block etc). Where is a GM Powertrain engineer????

Actually, since I have an 06 lly, I have done lots of research and everything I've read leads me to believe the only possible differences are the block and the programming. I'm not saying I'm right, I'm just saying from the information I have seen that is the conclusion I come to. There have been a few posts on here stating the only difference is the programming and it wasn't bumped up to the higher power levels because they hadn't finished getting the engines certified at the higher hp levels. I don't know the validity of those claims, but I do know the 06 lly has the new computer, intake, turbo and injectors. All literature I have read from GM states all 06 lly and lbz have lower compression ratio which leads me to believe any changes they made to the piston/connecting rod assemblies were carried out on the lly and if they infact made any changes to the head (I've read that they have and have not been changed any) they have the same changes also. If you know of some information that shows otherwise I would appreciate you showing me because I can't find it. I'm just trying to find out exactly what I have and share with others so they know also.

if the stealership was aware that you wanted a LBZ and didn't inform you that the truck you were buying was not an LBZ, I would be a pain in the azz until they bent in your favor somehow. that's b.s. You really have to check and double check what they're feeding you - and I did know more about the truck than the salesman and the sales manager (mostly from reading up on this site). I test drove an '06 LLY before ordering my LBZ and the sales manager swore up and down that since it was an '06 that is was the LBZ - wrong.

i think the that if u wanted an Lbz u should of done the research and really made it clear to the dealer of what u wanted.... i have never owned a truck and of course a disel or known anybody that owens a disel, so when i wanted to get me a truck i started doing a lot of reasearch and came across this site, and man it helped me tremendously, i was thinking about getting a ford ant first, but i can honestly say that this site persuaded me in to buying my 06 lbz 3500 dually... good luck on trying to resolve that problem.

For the most recent discussion on the LBZ and 06 LLY see this post: http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=59888.

That said, I am very happy with the 06 LLY, it has more engine than I'll ever need, and I'm happy to have the extra $1500 in my pocket. Whatever floats your boat (06 LBZ or LLY), but there is no reason to start crying in your beer.
