Hello, Our trucks transmission is acting up. It wouln't down shift when it's supposed to ocassionly. Every time i take it out it wouln't down shift once then it works perfect the rest of the way. It happens cold or hot. I checked the fluid level (doesn't smell bad), down shift cable, Did the brake and gas test to see if it slips at a stop-it didn't. We had a heavy duty rebuild done a year and a half ago (out of warranty now) for 2,000 at cottman transmission. Do you think it could be a switch or something small? Thanks Eric

Eric,
I'm not too familiar with the 6.2's but does it have a TPS = Throttle Position Sensor. It would be located on the upper side of the IP on the pass side. Do you have any codes?
Check the FAQ's on the main page and it may be something in there.
Hope it helps and if that does not, post more info and I'm sure many of the knowledgable people here will be glad to help.

Is your tranny a 700r4 or a 4l60e? If it is a 700r4, try adjusting the tv cable. They can be fickle.

The check engine light is not on a i don't have a scanner for it. It is a 7oor4 transmission. What is a tv cable and how do you adjust one?

Eric,
The check engine light did not come on with my TPS problem either but it sounds like that is not your issue.
If DC does not check back in on you cable adjustment soon, you may want to check in the FAQ's and that may have your answer. I'm not familiar with that otherwise I'd give you the answer.
Hope it helps.

To adjust the TV cable, find the cable where it attaches to the engine, it will be on the driver side rear attached to the cylinder head. Remove the air cleaner for ease. You will see a small cable come out of the bracket, it attaches to a rod that attaches to the injection pump throttle linkage. As the throttle linkage is opened, the tv cable is excercised. To adjust the tv cable: Find the bracket at the rear driver cylinder head, on the top of the bracked is a D shaped piece of metal, depress this with a screw driver, it only moves about 1/16th of an inch. While depressing this button, push the center plastic guide all the way towards the firewall. This is a ratcheting adjustment. Now gently bring the throttle all the way open. This will reset the plastic sleeve. Test drive. Small adjustments can be made one notch at a time to fine tune. For some reason, these TV cables can be a pia and will often need to be frequently adjusted.:grd:

I adjusted the tv cable. It now shifts sooner (like it is supposed too). The plastic guide was all the way back. Then after i reset it and ratched the throttle cable it moved forward about a half inch. It runs great and the problem is gone now. Thanks for all the help.

You are luckier than me. I just had to fix my daughters 700r4 behind her new 6.5 and the problem ended up being a stuck spool in the valve body. The spool is the inner throttle spool in front of the TV spool. Made late hard shifts in 1st gear and wouldn't shift into overdrive. All fixed now.;)
