I need some help. I want to order a 3500 GMC DA....., Those of you that ordered your truck, would you please inform me how you did it. I don't really want to go down to a dealer and do the face to face, I hate that. Would rather do it all via email and when the deposit is due send in a check or drop it off. I would assume I can email them the option codes for the build, but how did you work out the deal/best price ? I plan on soliciting several dealerships. Sure would appreciate some help here.
Thank you http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif

I used www.kbb.com (http://www.kbb.com/) for my invoice pricing. I sent faxes to five area dealers with what I wanted and would pay per my research. I then narrowed it down to a dealer that accepted my offer at face value with the best service shop. Always talk to the service manager. This is as important as getting the best price. Good luck.

I also did some research. The best $35 I ever spent was using a service called http://www.fightingchance.com/. They will provide you with a strategy and all of the pricing info you need. Detailed reports and current price lists including all option codes. I got my truck custom ordered and out the door for $500 over dealer invoice without ever stepping into a dealership until the day I signed the paperwork. Using some of the info provided I actually saved an additional $400 on "marketing costs" that were higher at some dealerships. My price was considered great considering the constraint on the vehicle I chose.

If color is important, you will have to go to the dealership to look at colors. The internet does not show colors that well. In my case, it was WAY off.
Like above, you do your "internet" negotiations from invoice.
Invoice is roughly $6500 off MSRP on a loaded DA 4x4. After emailing a few dealerships, I was offered $200 over invoice. The MSRP on mine was $49,133. I had accrued $2750 in discounts without the GM Cashback. I used the 0% instead which saved $6700 in finance charges for a 6%, 60m loan. So we saved over $15,000 from a MSRP 6%/60m normal sale. But to put things in perspective, my first pickup cost $6000 brand new. I can't believe a pickup sells for $50k.
For SoCal folk:
I was very pleased with deal and courtesy I received at Irvine GMC in Irvine California. They also cut us a similiar deal on our Oldsmobile. Their service dept has also treated us fairly.
I called just about every dealer within a 300 mile radius...asked for the fleet manager or the sales manager. I then asked, if I told them exactly what I wanted, (I knew all the options, int & ext color, etc. that I wanted), could they give me the truck at invoice. I knew what that was from the various websites and the GM site. One dealer said yes without any boloney, and in fact I was talking to the granddaughter of the founder. It helps to go as high up the food chain as possible. She took my order over the phone. I gave her my GM card # for the small deposit they wanted. Waited a few weeks, then drove to San Diego to get my truck. One of the easiest and best truck buying experiences I ever had.
