My paint seems to chip very easily! Already around my wheel wells, I have the sandblasted look, and I have only owned my truck for 9 months! Is there a clearcoat on it or what, the paint seems to scratch or chip very easily I was wondering if you guys are having similar problems or not.

Cheers,

Russ

the paint quality on GM trucks is really poor in my opinion - i have had 2 new trucks in the last 6 months. both have really a lot of paint defects... fisheyes and dirt specks...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

If they put mud flaps on them , they would be responsible for busted fendershttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/uploads/rr_busted_2_sm.jpg

All you need to do is back up in the deep snow, a little leverage goes a long way. How do you spell $3k ??? Cheap ass, dent resistant ?dually fenders.Edited by: Duallyvette

<DIV>Here is my thought on this, I put mud flaps on my truck to stop stone chips because stone chips turn to rust.</DIV>
<DIV>On the dually the whole box side is plastic and won't rust from stone chips, so why would you want mud flaps?</DIV>
<DIV>When the dually do get chipped it's down very low and can't be seen unless you bend over.</DIV>
<DIV>I would rather have a few stone chips that can't rust than to take a chance on breaking the fender.</DIV>

Even the rubber mud flaps connect to the fender and could break the fender(you might have to try a little harder than I did to break the fenders). I thought about making a bracket that only connected to the frame of the truck. There doesn't look like enough room in there for them to hang straight. Maybe rock chips will look good (deluxe texturized finish).

Wow! This is something I never thought of. I was getting ready to buy the hard plastic type mud flap. I am going to get the old fashion rubber kind now. They flex!

Well the other consideration you have with whether or not you put flaps on the Dooley is if you pull a trailer...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

A Dooley, especially on a dirt road, or even in areas where there might be a lot of residual sand/salt from winter, will make mincemeat out of the front end of a trailer if you don't have rear flaps...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

If you guys are worried about rock chips, I put clear "film" on the bottom of my doors (from the body molding down) to the rear fenders. I now laugh at salt/sand (gravel) infested roads.

When I took delivery of my '03, there was some minor paint work needed on the hood. There are over 15 shades of "Summit White" depending on a number of manufacturing variables. The dealership could NOT get the paint to match. I think my '03 was built on a Friday http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif.

Clear "film" is a great idea if you are going to paint it, otherwise it will discolor with age. There is some kind of rubberized paint that can be color matched and applied to the areas where you get the rock chips.

GM (at least) used to use a special very hard anti-chip coating from behind the front wheel well to the rear of the truck. It was applied between the primer and the color/clear coat and, I assume, only on sheet metal. On my '97 there are some chips in the clear/color coat but none through the anti-chip coating.
