I will be purchasing a 2006 chevy 2500 D/A,extended cab, two wheel drive ,long box, truck this spring. In the next year or so I would like to get a truck camper(Lance) so I can tow my 16 foot fishing boat. It will be my wife and I camping so we do not need alot of room. Does anyone have a truck camper and tow a boat? What are the pro's and con's of this set-up? Should I forget the truck camper and get a small 5th wheel trailer and leave the boat at home?(We will not be using the boat every time that we camp)Thanks for your comments.

Don't have one now, but used to. It's a great way to do things...if you want to spend a day on the water and not spend the night, take the camper off; if you will be going to a park with no lake, leave the boat at home; if you need a load of fire wood, leave 'em both at home. Very versatile. You can get a camper with all the amenities of a fifth wheel (except room)...A/C, M/W, refrig, hot water, head, shower, queen bed, etc. In some states you can tow your boat behind the fifth wheel, but not all. Up to you, depends on how and what you will use, and what you like to do.

Truck/camper/boat is a great combination. The camper is a great way when you only have 2 people. You can see by my Avitar that I have a 10ft camper & even though it is billed to sleep 6 it is only comfortable with 2. We do enjoy it as it is 100% self contained. What we give up is room. I don't really notice this on short weekend trips when we go fishing. However we usually will take a week and take the camper & trailer a Honda Goldwing and go to the coast. We set up camp & ride up & down the coast on the bike. It's great, but after a week the camper seems pretty small. It's these trips I wish I had a trailer or 5ver.
Good Luck & enjoy!!

Hmmm, I have been down this road a few miles. I have a 2004.5 LLY
CC 2WD for my Lance 1071.
Here are some notes/ideas
1) If your order the HDPP and sliding rear window all options except
a) rear spare tire lock, b) provisions for 5th wheel, c) camping mirrors
will show up. This is a sort of quirk in the way the GM ordering system
works.
2) You will need Rickson Wheels for the weight. Sad but true.
3) Get a 3500 SRW instead, as it comes with the extra springs.
4) You will need the aftermarket anti-roll bar.
5) Just get 4WD and be done with it.
6) Get the LineX spray-in liner AND the rubber mat for the camper.
7) Get the Reese Titan hitch for the rear and make you own stinger.
8) Get the front hitch.
9) That Lance really needs 200 watts of solar on the roof.
10) Add one or two extra accumulators to the cold water circuit on your Lance. That will cut WAY down on the pump cycling.

You'd better stay away from the larger slide out Lances if you don't want to get a 3500 Dually! Unless you are going on a lots of rough off camber rock and roll roads I never need any special suspension the torsion bars fight sway on average roads! I put 51K on a GM crew, 4x4, 3500 Dually with a Lance 1021 and it was great! You have to get a Reese Titan or similar for towing! GM hitches don't give much leeway! I think they are the weakest in the industry!

I have an 835 which is only 8.5 ft, but its on a shortbed, and I pull a 21' pontoon or an enclosed trailer full of bikes and do just fine. What we are doing is exactly why most people buy a truck camper, so we dont pull triple. You will probably need some add ons. Rancho 9000x are NICE!! I added some Firestone airbags to help with sag a little. Good travelin! Frank :grd:

if i were to buy a truck / camper / boat combo, wait i do have that. get 4x4 as there are times i put my boat in at the beach (18ft. maxum). used to have a dodge m/h with 440. oodles of power and i figured i'd just back it in at the beach. baaad idea. even with duals i had a heck of a time driving out of there with no boat on the trailer. had to go to a boat launch to retrieve the boat. the only way i can tell i have a boat on the truck now is either look in the rear view mirrors cause i can't feel it there when the camper is on or if i drive without the camper on i can feel the boats presence. my only complaint with this setup is i have to leave the m/c at home. had a rack for the m/c on the m/h. fuel wise it's worth it for having sold the m/h.
