I understand Truck Stops of America and Flying J carry it, but I am at least 30 miles from one of those. Any chain stores carry it?

Pick,

I have not found any chain stores that carry it, and the local truck stops here that I have checked out don't either. I have no idea if there is better pricing out there, but I have bought mine online from http://www.kennedydiesel.com.

You might want to give the Primrose 405/409 a look also. it can be found at www.avlube.com (http://www.avlube.com). its what the US military uses!

I had the same question, and called FPPF yesterday. They were able to provide me with a number of sotres in my area where I could purchase Total Power. None of the locations are truck fuel stops...they are all major truck repair facilities. FPPF's number is 1-800-735-3773.

I have found it on the shelves at "truck stops" like Speedway on the interstates.

I think that means Eric sells it.

I've used the FPPF since early on with my motor. I can't really vouch for how good it is versus the Primrose, but I tried the Power Service and my mileage went down.

I have been told that certain additives can actually reduce the BTU's of the fuel, but that was just a comment I took with a grain of salt.

Find one you like and stick with it.

MYSTIK distributed by CITGO is a good Diesel Fuel Conditioner to. I get mine at a local fuel and lubrication distributor. Haven't found it atany of our local CITGO gas stations but I haven't found one yet that sells diesel. Have seen it large CITGO stations in the north .

Here is a chart I put together that I carry in the truck for total power. The ratios are 1:1 for 32oz per 250 gallons of diesel, 1.5:1 for 32oz per 188 gallons of diesel, and 2:1 for 32oz per 125 gallons. I'm just starting to use Total Power, and will start at the 1:5 ratio (per John Kennedy's site). The chart can either be used for the number of gallons of fuel added to the tank, or the number of miles driven. Mileage is based on an average of 16.8 MPG. for example, if I add 5 gallons of fuel, based on a ratio of 1.5:1, I'd add 1 oz of Total Power.

Stupid question but....for those using additives, how are you carrying and measuring out the additive. The FPPF bottle leaks when turned over so I put it in the bed of the truck so it doesnt leak in the cab. I have a pre-measured jar that I pour the additive into. I would rather have a self contained, relatively accurate way to measure this out and dump in the tank....any ideas?

My wife likes to buy little 8oz bottled waters. I have take a few of these containers, let them dry thoroughly, and pre-measure the additive. I keep a plastic storage bin in the bed of my truck, with things like spare filters, jumper cables, small tool kit, etc, and I now keep 3 of these pre-measured bottles in there. After measuring it out the first time, I took a black permanent marker and marked the side of the bottle so the next re-fill will be easier. Now when I go for a fill up, I just dump in a bottle.

I use a 32oz Sta-Bil bottle (a suggestion from JK), measurements right on the side, easy to use. I mix Total Power and Cetane Improver 50/50 and add 1oz per 4gal at each fill up.

I have a bunch of old Stanadyne 16 oz bottles around. They are constructed of a thick plastic and don't leak. I transfered some of the FPPF into one of these bottles. The markings on the bottle are good for the 2:1 mixture ratio shown above (I like the print-out!). The Stanadyne bottle fits perfectly in the back of the drivers seat pouch. Edited by: OC_DMAX

You might want to give the Primrose 405/409 a look also.Ê it can be found at www.avlube.com (http://www.avlube.com).Ê its what the US military uses!

From first hard experiance I can tell you that this does not mean something is the best on the market, it usually means it's the cheapest thing that meets MIL SPECs.
Food for thought.

Another suggestion for containers. If you know a pharmacist, or anyone who works at a pharmacy, see if you can get some medicine bottles from them. The red plastic ones with a child-proof cap that liquid medications(cough syrup, antibiotics) come in. They hold 6oz. and are graduated by oz. on the side. I have about a dozen that I fill with 6oz. Stanadyne each. Keep 3 or 4 in the truck in a ziploc bag under the rear seat. I usually put all 6 oz. in every tank. I save the bottles and refill them. They have not leaked a drop in 2 years. No sign of any reaction between the stanadyne and the plastic. Even if they won't give you some, they can't be very expensive.

BlueOx03,

The reason i went with the primrose was not the military's use. Many of us here (myself included) trust George Morrison's opinion and that is his recommendation. I actually posted the military blurb because i thought it was interesting. After all, the military ships diesel vehicles into all sorts of unfriendly envrio's. George can elaborate more on this. I also like the primrose as its very concentrated. 1 12-ounce bottle treats 160 gallons!

I don't doubt that George Morrison knows what he's talking about. I was only commenting on the "it's what the US Military uses!" comment because it's a common misconseption that just because the military uses something, it's better. Like I said, it usually means it's the cheapest acceptable product. I wasn't saying that the product in question was good or bad, just that military use doesn't make it better.

As for measuring I use a empty 32 oz Sta-BIL bottle for bulk measure and stowage, and empty 3.2 to 4oz 2 cycle oil bottles to carry for on road treatments, even have the wife carry them pre-measured to treat her Diesel VW New-Bug.
