What is the real purpose of the roof lamps besides looking cool?

I mean is there a use for them or are they just there to look good?

They might be required by law in some states depending on the size of your trailer.

For me, besides looking cool (and they do), they add a considerable safety margin at night. Not only do they make you much more visible to other drivers, but from the front, they give the appearance of a big rig bearing down on you. People tend to respect that.

I concur.

50% because: A truck just ain't a truck without roof lights.
50% because: Oncoming vehicles stay in their own lanes at night.

5 roof and 4 sidemarker lamps are required for trucks of 80 or more inches in overall width.Edited by: TxDoc
