: LBZ Power Pup
Kemosabe 01-04-2006, 02:34 PM The following is not a slam...
I got my Power Pup (43568) and went through the install, up to "Determining Vehicle Type" and got the following error:
Unknown Part #04C052CC Error 6 Call Bully Dog
They sent me an "Upgrade"?
Anyways... version 1.0.5. I installed the file(s), using my computer. (I had to download some DLL files) Tried to re-do the Pup into my truck... Same error.
Talked to BD... Very nice people... Now, "Justin" is going to "Make an upgrade" using my VIN... (I hope soon)
I'll keep you posted...
I submit this just for your info... In case someone else has a problem.
BTW I have the files if anyone needs them.
:Nothing_f
camaroracer 01-04-2006, 05:51 PM do they have updates out already for the power pups?? how do you get these with the usb cable on the unit?
Kemosabe 01-04-2006, 07:09 PM do they have updates out already for the power pups??
Well, it's either an "Update" or just the "Reflash" (Version 1.0.5)
how do you get these with the usb cable on the unit?
Yes... USB to computer from PowerPup...
PM me and I'll send them...:exactly:
Kemosabe 01-07-2006, 04:00 PM The following is not a slam...
I'll keep you posted...
Okay... I'm back.
Long story, short... It took 3-Days for BD to get "Justin" involved. (They had me try different things)
Justin wanted my VIN, and he "Re-Wrote" a (new) upgrade, Version 1.0.6, and I installed it on the Power Pup.
It works "Great"...
I wrote BD (Justin) and asked if the "1.0.6" would work on any LBZ, or just my VIN... I'm waiting to hear...
If it's for "All", I have it (Zipped = 6-Megs) if anyone wants it for their 43568. PM me and I'll send it.
Check the "Opening Screen" on the Pup, it shows the "Version". Mine used to say 1.0.5, now it says 1.0.6.

2006sierra 01-07-2006, 10:04 PM I had version 1.0.3 - no tire size adjustment. I called - they said I had an old version and they told me I could not download a new version and I had to send it to them. I mailed it this morning - they said it will take them about a week.
Kemosabe 01-08-2006, 01:45 PM Hi guys. It's me again...
I sent my (Version 1.0.6) to two (other) guys and they report back... "It Works!!!".
So, if any of you want it, PM me and I'll send it.
It does "Tire Size" and "Speedo"...
I have just over 2000 Miles on mine and I tried the "Performance" setting... Pedal to the metal, Turbo-Lag... then "Tire Squeal" on three gear changes...:cool2: Then I went back to "Econ-Tow/Haul"... BTW it's a "Pain" to have to Re-Set the Censored Clock every time you "Pull Fuses" to use the Pup...:shake: Oh, well...
It works Great! :exactly:
camaroracer 01-08-2006, 07:40 PM hmmm i need to try the perforamnce setting... kimosabe do you haev gauges on it?
Kemosabe 01-08-2006, 08:24 PM kimosabe do you haev gauges on it?
Nope... I only ran it up the street (1/2-Mile) and back... Should have gauges in a few weeks.
I also ordered the "BD" 5" exhaust... Hope to have it in by next weekend:exactly:
BTW All you guys talk about "Must have gauges", but no one has said what to look for... When I drove a "Big Rig" (Long, long ago) I drove "One" with a Pyrometer and 16 without.(At different times, of course) The "Company Policy" was... Watch the Water-Temperature, if it gets close to 200, back out and gear down. When coming off the road after a pull, Idle for at least 10-Minutes to let the engine cool down... The rule on the one with the Pyro was, keep it under 1250... (And watch the water-Temp, etc.) So, for us "Novices"... what should the driver be looking for in "Caution", if you have gauges??
camaroracer 01-08-2006, 11:23 PM can i get the update emailed to me? how do i upgrade my power pup then ?
bbc565 01-09-2006, 12:34 AM camaroracer, give me your email and i will try to send it to you
augiedog77 01-09-2006, 01:10 AM good to hear you got your pup working Kimosabe. BD really does go above and beyond when there is a problem.
Is performance the same as extreme (never really paid attention to the other options)?
blue68383 01-09-2006, 01:38 AM You guys need to put that BD on the top tune then dyno it and get track times. See how much that 6 speed will handle before she blows.):h :D
ratlover 01-09-2006, 11:39 AM You need a pyro if your upping the power and towing. Short bursts my LB7 would burry the 1600* pyro when I had the BIG tune in it. Short burst is ok.....you just dont want to have here hot for long periods. Most say 1250-1300 pre turbo sustained but it seems like the GM trucks and turbos run warmer? I duno but the 1250 sustained seems to come mostly from the dodge and big rig guys. Seems like a pretty conservative estimate though.
You dont need a boost gauge but it is nice and I would run one. You need a pyro though if your going to run a tune and tow.
Let your truck idle down to 300 or so before you shut here down. In my LB7 most times it didnt took well under a minute unless I was working it..
DuramaxBryan 01-09-2006, 04:51 PM Well i recieved my power pup today. Version 1.0.2. No tire size updater option available. I called them for the update, they pretty much refused to give me one or email one to me. The told me it isnt internet upgradeable, only the triple dog is, eventhough the website blatantly states that it is. So how can i get this new version into the pup? I'm not going to send it in to them if i can do it here and save myself the hassle. Needless to say im a little irritated.
bbc565 01-09-2006, 05:19 PM Hey call back and ask for a guy named liberty, i have noticed that some of the people dont know anything there. He should be able to help you.

Kemosabe 01-09-2006, 05:41 PM Hey call back and ask for a guy named liberty,
Okay, Guys...
After I called, and got Tech Support, I got Jerry. He has a "Direct" line... Try 866-801-3528.
He was very helpful... He spoke to "Justin" who (appears) to be the "Programmer"... Justin sent me the 1.0.6 upgrade.
Again... If anyone wants it, I'll send it.

DuramaxBryan 01-10-2006, 12:47 PM Ok I got it straight. Thanks Kimosabe and everyone else for your help. I ended up talking on the phone to Liberty, he was very helpful. I now have the tire option and everythings good.
TA Dave 01-11-2006, 12:14 AM Got the e-mail, thanks!

RichLockyer 01-11-2006, 01:33 AM Updated to 1.0.6 and installed tonight.
I really wish there was a way to retain power to the aftermarket stereo... full-bore GPS with XM took me an hour to reprogram all of my settings.
Does that fuse HAVE to be pulled?
I was a little nervous when "SERVICE 4WD" appeared on the DIC during programming, then I realized that the pushbuttons had no power.
I'm running BFG AT/KO 285/75-16, and set for 33"... now I'm about 1-2mph slow at 70 where before I was 5 slow.
I seriously considered bumping it to 33.5" but figured 33" was enough over the spec (32.8") to work... guess not.
I took it for a quick 10 mile trip down the freeway and back on the "performance" tune. Feels nice, but I didn't hammer it.

the only one I ever pull is the drl fuse,(and I leave it out) and three trucks later(avalanche,escalade,2500 lbz) I've never had a problem.
DuramaxBryan 01-12-2006, 01:00 AM What do you mean by drl? How's performance tune feel for the guys that are running it?
RichLockyer 01-12-2006, 02:56 AM Feels good... still less than 100 miles on the tune. Got on it on a couple of onramps and the shifts felt a bit "mushy"... not sure if the BD is defueling on shifts and with the extra power it's more noticeable or what it is.
fredw 01-12-2006, 03:29 AM from my testing with the bully-dog powerpups and now the tripple dog, i do not pull any fuses at all, i also shut off the ac/heater, and do not tounch any controls while adding the tune, and never have any problems, no need to pull any fuses
06lbzduramax 01-12-2006, 05:10 PM What do you mean by drl? How's performance tune feel for the guys that are running it?
daytime running lamps

I have had the Power Pup on my 06 LLY and my shift into 5 and 6th are harder and by harder I mean more noticable. When i cruise around 40-45ish it feels bumpy like the transmissions feeling kinda jumpy. But I dont notice any drop or jump in RPMs when it feels mushy and bumpy.
Ive had the Performance tune on my truck for close to 300 miles, Its a great feeling to spank many of the cars who try to race in front of me! The tow tune works great when I pull my bobcat- I never use "tow/haul" anymore.
I have a BD Power Pup model 68 for the 06 duramaxs extra. Its in the factory shrink wrap for sale. But Please dont post if your interested. PM.
DuramaxBryan 01-13-2006, 12:43 PM fredw do you have any more pictures of your truck?
Anyone have trouble with 1.06 not being verified by windows xp ?
RichLockyer 01-14-2006, 02:41 PM Nope.... got the two warnings (USB driver and one other driver).... told it to go ahead and it caused no problems.
I did save a system restore point just to be safe, but I haven't needed to use it. I figured, worst case, if the drivers screwed up my printer or something, I only needed it for 5 minutes to update the Pup and I could deinstall and restore the system. You only need to connect to the Pup this once (or for future updates)... don't spend $40 on the USB cable from Best Buy.... steal it from your printer or spend $5 on one from an electronics shop.
Or steal the one from your printer or scanner temporarily :D
pecandude1 01-26-2006, 07:59 PM can PLEASE somebody send me the 1.06 update mines not working!!

Thanks Rich... I just sent him a PM to get his email address... I don't think the one I used worked. (either)
If anyone else needs a copy PM me your email address... and be advised it is a 6-Meg file, so your "Mailbox" has to be able to hold it. (And... if you have "Dialup" -:t plan on "Overnight" download...) :muahaha:
pecandude1 01-27-2006, 01:22 PM i cant figure out how to put the update in my power pup. i keep getting wrong OS or version for application

That's similar to the error I got...
Check (on the Pup) see if the "Version" is (in fact) 1.0.6.
If it isn't, you didn't download it correctly.
If it is, call BullyDog and (try) to speak to Justin... He's the guy who "Wrote the Program"...
Let us know what happens...:exactly:
pecandude1 01-27-2006, 09:27 PM yeah it says 1.06 on the programer. but no go
hamdiesel 02-01-2006, 10:11 PM from my testing with the bully-dog powerpups and now the tripple dog, i do not pull any fuses at all, i also shut off the ac/heater, and do not tounch any controls while adding the tune, and never have any problems, no need to pull any fuses
I would tend to agree with this. If you RTFM a few times (like I did), it says for the initial download you gotta yank the four (or so) fuses. Then you can put them back and program to your hearts content. Did I miss something?
rotthor1 02-06-2006, 09:55 PM Bully Dog now has 1.0.7 update out had mine down loaded today, have not had time to try it. Installed it and everything is working good
pecandude1 02-07-2006, 08:28 PM thanks for the update
ChampionTransmission 02-09-2006, 09:17 AM My Power Pup should be here Friday, will I have the most up to date programming or will I still need to upgrade. I know they just got these things shipped in last weekend as they had a little back order. Thanks for any info. -Mat-
RichLockyer 02-09-2006, 12:12 PM Mine shipped about 2 days after they finished 1.06 and I still had 1.05.
Just plug it in and the opening screen will tell you.
If you need to upgrade it, go to an electronics surplus place for the USB cable. I got mine for $5 at Orvac. Best Buy's cheapest was $30.
I only bought one so I could keep it in the box with the programmer. The one going to your printer will work fine.
torozmaster 02-09-2006, 12:37 PM Thoses with 1.07, whats the improvement? I have .06 Thanks
RAGGED EDGE 02-10-2006, 12:49 AM 1.0.07 is listed on the updates as additional LBZ part numbers. I dont belive there are any advantages if you are sucessfully using the 1.0.6. The read me files with the download will tell you what each version added.
Got my pup today 1.0.5 did not work and got Error 06. Updated to 1.0.7 and got the same code but it listed even more part numbers.
Called BullyDog gave them the part numbers on the pup, my vin#,and build date, and they said they had 1.0.8 and they would email it to me, but they called later and said 1.0.8 would not work on my truck and they should have me a fix tomorrow.
They seem to be working very hard on this. When I called they said they would call me back and I thought probably tomorrow but to my suprise they called me back 5 minutes later.
FYI my truck is an early 06 LLY 08/05 build date.
I will give an update. The build date they are looking for is the one inside the drivers door on the sticker.
:chevy: :rocking: :chevy:
RichLockyer 02-10-2006, 01:05 AM Mine was a 7/20 build, 1.0.6 works fine.
RAGGED EDGE 02-14-2006, 10:53 PM Finally got an update that works in my truck (version 1.0.9) all that was done on this version more LLY part numbers were added. The dif in the 1.0.8 was more LBZ part numbers over the 1.0.7. The 1.0.7 is listed as improved download and added LBZ part numbers.:chevy: :rocking: :chevy:

I wonder why... Is GM putting "Different" PCM's in these trucks? Is it GM or BD who is having the problem?
Sounds like it's GM... Other threads have suggested a (or more than one) new "Flash"...
Does anyone know?
Should we be looking for a "Flash"? and... if we get a Flash, will the current BD (program) work after?
Mmmmmm...:secret:
RAGGED EDGE 02-15-2006, 11:18 PM My PCM was re-programed with several updates. My friend at the dealership has been busy and I have not had time to check the updates that were installed. It did take around 15-20 minutes to update. I suspect these updates that were done were the problems. I had 5 unknown part#s on the bullydog 1.0.7.
I have been running on econ/tow(1- day) seems to work great. Trans sifts great but that is probably due to the tire size being right.
Tried performance and extreme today they, both made good power. but it seems like it may be quicker in econ/tow due to the defuel before the shift kinda disapointing. I only tried each on a couple of short runs, didnt want to get carried away w/o pyro. The shifting would hopefully improve after the trans adapts adjusted to the new power.:chevy: :rocking: :chevy:
RichLockyer 02-16-2006, 12:39 AM Tried performance and extreme today they, both made good power.
Don't mess with Extreme unless you have enough in the bank for a trans rebuild.
Mike has actually had a couple of limped trannies from STOCK LBZ trucks... we are at the limit of the Allison. Go no higher than performance, and even then, be very careful.
k1keg 02-21-2006, 08:25 PM Just got my Power Pup for my 06 GMC 2500HD, followed directions to pull out 4 fuses, then connect Power Pup to OBD II port and it said I should see it light up and I should see the first menu...hummm no menu!!! any thoughts?? Bully Dog tech support is closed right now so I'll call them tomorrow....darn, I wanted to feel the power today!!!!

pecandude1 02-21-2006, 09:29 PM check your ciggerate lighter fuse under the hood thats what happed to me too.
can anybody email me the 1.08 or 1.09 power pup updates the 1.07 doesnt work on mine
06lbzduramax 02-21-2006, 09:54 PM although they say to remove the fuses, I never have and have had no trouble.I did remove the drl fuse and leave it out though.
bubbatodd 02-22-2006, 07:54 AM make sure no accessories are on and nothing is plugged in the cigarette lighter or other power outlets. i got my power pup yesturday. i had to call for help installing. the guy said to leave the fuses in and unplug car phone charger. it then took the download. i ran it in tow mode first then in extreme but when i tried to put it in performance mode it froze. it now says its in recovery mode but it wont do anything. the bad part is now my truck is dead and will not start or even turn the motor over, DEAD. bullydog has my VIN and other info to program another downloader for me and are sending it overnight. i'm impressed with their costumer service but after reading other post here i'm a little nervous about the product.

It was the cig lighter fuse, I don't smoke so I never knew is was gone! Thanks for the help! OMG what a difference!!! Just took it out for a ride and what a difference from stock. I have Tow/Econ set and the power increase is very noticable.........):h
RichLockyer 02-22-2006, 12:32 PM i ran it in tow mode first then in extreme but when i tried to put it in performance mode it froze.
As has been said many times before, do not mess with extreme and be VERY careful with performance on a stock tranny.
Extreme WILL limp the stock trans, and Performance is pushing it.
My '06 LLY put 350hp to the rear wheels on the syno. Stock LBZ makes 360 at the crank and puts about 300-320 to the rear wheels. Mike L has had a couple of limped trannys running STOCK LBZ's.
pecandude1 02-22-2006, 04:28 PM bulldog has the downloads for the powerpup avaliable on their website now. put the 1.09 in mine and put the tow/eco in and it works great. could have fooled me as the tow/eco on my lbz feels like the performance on my buddys 06lly

The whole point in removing the fuses is so when you cycle the key you dont get voltage spikes when dome lights or headlights cycle on or off while you are downloading causing potential problems. 99 times out of 100 it probably would not be a problem but if one of them cycles on or off at the right time during the download it could possibly corrupt the data.
Better safe than sorry.
Mine on econ. went from 15.9 .s to 15.31
On perf. it ran 14.7 ,s
and ext. it will not learn to shift but trans has never limped.
