About to order a bully dog power pup most likely, and i wanted to see what everybody thought of it. How does the transmission shift? Does it mess w/ shift duration or line pressure?(Don't want it to do either of those) Does it pull the top end governer? How about the fuel dump at shifts?(This would be nice to get rid of) So realistically how much of an improvement is the tow/econ over hte stock programming. I have an LLY 06' so i guess it would be a bump of 50-60HP? Well let me know, I really need to reprogram for 295 tires that are on the truck, to correct my speedo. Since this is the only thing out so far to correct it, i guess it's my only option. Also, typically how does bully dog rate against say EDGE or Diablosport? I'm new to the whole diesel tuning/performance thing.

I have it, it does not adjust for tire size on the 06. the power is big over stock, the tow mode is a nice jump over stock pulls alot better. I tried the extreme mode big big big power.

I also do not have a tire size option. But, I do have the speed limit option. I am going to the bully dog web site right now to see if there is an update. If not, I am going to e-mail them. I will let you know what they say.

I have sent an e-mail to bully dog and will watch for a reply. But, I have another question about the downloader. The add for the power pup on their website says that it is adjustable....

"ON-THE-FLY" ADJUSTABILITY - The Triple Dog is the ONLY downloader or tuner offering this feature which allows users to adjust horsepower and transmission settings while the vehicle is in operation.

Am I confused? What did you all think about this?

I called them today, they did say that there is no tire size adjustment for the 06!! they said the tripple dog will have it.

I think whoever you talked to was on crack, mine has the adjust for tire size that comes up after you adjust the top speed.

Humm, interesting. Mine has it, but I've not used it.

As for the original question, I love my Power Pup... On Tow it acts just like stock, shifting, ect, just more power.

I just went out and programed a tune in it and then did the speed limit adjustment after that there is know tire size adjustment. So some of you have a 06 with the tire size option on your power pup. Does it make a difference if it is lly or lbz?

I also tried twice and mine acts the same as yours. No tire adjust. Mine is a 2006 Sierra LLY CC 4x4. BBC565 is yours also an LLY?

I had the bully dog power pup and i wasn't to happy with it for one i had alot of gliches with the downloader and ended up going with the edge with juice and love it, i would never go with bully dog products again i also had the bully dog dyno dominator and that was even more of a headache and demanded a refund from them.

Whew, that's better. I was worried for a second.
Ditto.... my primary reason for ordering it is because it had this ability.

My company pays me a mileage allowance, and I occasionally find myself "wasting" personal miles to keep ahead of my correction factor so my end-of-week odometer reading (for tax purposes) does not equal less than last week's EOW plus current week mileage.

I'm not worried about the boss checking the ODO, but the IRS would give me grief in an audit if my odo read 10,000 on friday, I claimed 500 miles for next week, and I ended the week with 10,450 on the odo.

Compared to doing it "honestly", screwing myself and reporting only actual ODO miles vs reporting actual highway miles would make a difference of a little over $1000 per year... plenty to pay for the Pup.

That's the Triple Dog. The Pup is only a downloader and is not adjustable on the fly.

Oh man that sounds like the problems I was having with the Tech 2 trying to program the tire size.....Changes didn't seem to do anything.

Are you guys with the Bullydog able to pull the codes at least?

Anybody running the extreme setting getting any rattling or fuel knock?

Talked to bully dog today (for the 3rd time) there is a update form the power pup on the 06 that is why some of us cant get the tire size changer to work. mine is v. 1.0.3 the new one v. 1.0.5. They sent it to me today but so far can not get the file to open?

You guys are going to take out the C3s faster than previous Allys. Watch the power; don't put yourself in a financial position you don't want to be in. I am getting a lot of calls on limped LBZs with the BD.

Would you consider the two lower levels (econ/tow and perf) to be reasonably safe, particularly for someone with a light foot?

bbc565
01-05-2006, 11:36 PM
Just by driving mine the tow mode and even the performance mode dont seem to over power the trans, i tried the extreme mode, ya the power is awesome but you can tell it is to much for the trans.I just did 1500 miles on the tow mode pulling 5000 lbs over 3 passes each way no problems.

I really don't know at this point. I can tell you this; a couple of years ago when the Transgo shift kit was being developed we all saw the C2 clutches smoking big time. We did not see the C3s going bad very often but what did we have to compare? Only a few guys were hardcore racers and everyone else mainly towed and ran a little power. Now, it is too easy to get 400hp plus and we are seeing other failures. The new Ally 6 speed addressed the C2 clutch failure but did nothing for the C3 which is the hardest working clutch in the Ally.( next weakest link ) The C3 even works harder now with the 6th gear and the power is kicked up a big notch. I am just telling you guys to cool it because I think you will limp faster than ever.

In regard to the programming the tire size, I called Bully Dog and they said I have the wrong program and have to send it back. So.....off it goes. I told here that they e-mailed it to someone else but they could not open it. She said that is why I have to mail it back. They will have it for a week (she says). So I will play with the gage install and EGR unplug until I get it back.

I would venture WAG that they were just in a hurry to be the first 06 product to hit the market.

I'm glad I was lucky enough to get a "Good" one, but I feel for those that didn't.

2006sierra

I have been running the tow/ecomonomy program with no problems. Just no tire adjustment. I am guessing I have an older version of the program. Well, at least I will get the latest and greatest- they are always updating these. I was hoping to just download it though, that is one of the big advantages according to their advertisement.

Mike,

Do you think Allys will be safe at level 1 and 2 with programmers like Bully Dog, Banks and Edge with regular (non teenie bopper) driving? I want one for goosing it getting on the freeway once in a while for 3 or 4 seconds (non towing) and 1 or 2 MPG increase cruising at 65-70? I'm not into burn outs and pushing it hard! Don't need problems! Watcha think?

For all you guys with the LBZ I would install the Transgo trim valves in the valve body. This will give you some help with smaller programs. This will NOT help you with larger programs.and I hesitate saying this because some people will have a false sense of security and smoke the clutches. I am giving you guys a couple of feet here, don't take a mile. We will have Suncoast kits ready next week. I will be installing the first one and give a full report.

I bought 2 06 power pups for myself and my dad for christmas, and now he doesnt want it. So If anyone wants a confirmed upgraded with tire adjustments available, I have 1. I also have one in the shrink wrap. Im not sure about the one in the wrap, but the one on my truck has the option and they came in the same box. Its a great addition to any truck.

I know it's the nice to be the first guy on the block with this stuff but If you only waited for the triple dog you would have been much happier. So if you haven't popped the cash for the programmer, wait a week or two. The triple dog I thought is the only one that's is upgradeable over the net, I have upgraded mine two times over the net so far. Just be sure to remove the stock program out of the truck first! I think it is stored inside the box itself. Also the triple can switch levels on the fly with the box plugged into the obii and running along, it default to the power selection screen, arrow up or down press OK and it blinks to confirm.

6K miles so far with no issues..

Does it just share the same box with the triple so it has that connector? It doesn't say anything on the web page about that feature. If you right, and I hope you are, they are really dumb for not updating the web page.

OBD port is in the middle of the box, USB next to it.
It's a standard USB "female", same as would be on a printer or scanner.

$38 for the USB cable at Best Buy... $5 at the electronics shop.
