i recieved my starter kit for the veg oil from the diesel secret energy. Now since i have it, i am having "cold feet" about using it. Considering a new engine for a duramax diesel is probley what $12,000? i feel more comfortable paying $2.59/gal for D2 right now(i know it works fine), what should i do?

Yep, what they said. If you want to make biodiesel, do it the right way.

Nat,

Search this site and the web.... there are lots of discussion about this product...

I for one would feel safer processing my WVO in a preocess that has been used by thousands for thousands of miles...

I'm not giving you a hard time just trying to help...

Cheers.

thanks, i dont think i will like changing filters that often or being on the side of the road with a plugged filter/system. that D2 - $2.75/gal sounds better to me every minute!

Not worth the trouble, it failed my test, I would rather just blend veg oil with #2 but only in the summer;)

D.,

You can actually mix straight veg. oil with D2 and not have any problems? What % do you mix it? Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can mix straight vegtable oil with diesel and it works great as long as the tempatures are fairly warm. If you can get good soy oil you can run it in lower temps, but still not winter temps. Do yourself a favor and make some test batches using 1 quart glass jars. Mix varying %'s of veg oil with #2 shake well and let sit. Then put in the fridge, then the freezer and you will know what happens. Good clear oil will blend well and not cloud at about 20 degrees, but hydrogenated oil (the stuff that turns white below 50 degrees) is a much bigger challenge. I highly discourage using ANY AMOUNT OF GASOLINE in your engine! Your injection parts are very expensive and gasoline is not your friend! Just call a reputable fuel injection repair shop and ask them.

D.

Do you do this for engine longevity or some other reason? Wouldn't B20 give the same benefit?

What about thining it with kerosene? I'm trying to decide what recipe is the best for wvo non-heated system. I run an '03 duramax and I'm worried about having problems with the fuel lines, filters and injectors. I'd like to save my money and be more environmentally friendly but I don't wanna ruin my expensive investment at the same time. Any advice would be great. Thanks

kerosene would give you less lubricity as it is thinner than #2 diesel
