Bought the truck used. I suppose this means something to someone or they wouldn't have bothered to put it on. Any ideas?

Could mean someone took it out??? just a guess, I'm a mechanic and I've never seen that done in my neck of the woods

Once saw a new car with white spots on the lug nuts. That was to show that someone tightened them. Had a blotter in the socket I guess.

My 04.5 has marks, dots, letters in all sorts of colors all over the parts. I suspect it is a factory inspection mark.

My 00 also had the marks you speak of in all sorts of weird places under the hood, i would have to back and look at pictures but i'm sure it had the same X you talk about in the same spot.

Scary thought that we actually have to inspect, "Was thermostat housing installed???, yup one is there mark it with an X" makes one wonder what gets left off if someone forgets to check it off.

Could be how the dealer marked rigs that had the antifreeze tested to ensure the antifreeze was good.
