Ok, my egr valve has been tossing some codes at me every now and then. i found a block off plate at napaonline for 9 bucks and a new valve is 42. can i just get the block off plate and block whatever off to disable it? would it give me a check engine light all the time? maybe since i'm probably going to be selling it, i should just buy the new valve?

If you block it off it will throw codes and you will sacrifice some Highway MPG's check. To fix the code throwing problem check out tbichips.com, he is a great guy who really knows his stuff, he can make you a custom chip to turn off the egr completely for about $80.00

well. i don't think i want to do that since i'll probably be selling it in order to get a diesel. so i'll probably just buy the new egr valve.

make sure the passageway is clear most of the time that is the problem and not the valve. with the engine running open valve engine should stumble and sometimes even stall.

well. i was deer hunting opening morning around here during November. and while i was driving around it died on me 2 times just all of a suddern, couldn't hear the exhaust anymore. lost the power steering. just pulled over a little bit, stopped it and the ses came on. never did do the paper clip thing again, cause i figured it was the egr valve. i planned on cleaning it out at least even if i didn't get a new valve.

Could also be the vacuum modulator solenoid that operates the valve. Have seen a few of those go bad and set codes too.
