My 04.5 lly would not start so i posted on the 911 forum see details there and tried a bunch of things through suggestion from people from this board for that I thank everyone. Well today i get the call we're sorry Mr Acken but we will have to charge diagnostic fee. They say they unplugged my edge and plug in the stock harness and the truck started. Now I verified that before I even called the dealer and it would not start for me without edge or with edge. now i added additive and it had a flat bed down to dealer and was brought inside in warm air to look at and the unplugged the edge and it started so they say. Now the truck was running then died and would not re start and when i initally started it the programer was plugged in and it ran. I dont n mind paying the fee if in fact the programmer is at fault but i checked that. now my truck is branded and the warranty will be voided. The funny and uncomfortable thing is my neighbor is the shop foreman and I talked him before i called the dealer and told him that i tried starting the truck with out the programmer and nothing and said will they give me trouble for the programmer he said i dont think so. How do i know they didnt do something else and they are pulling something on me.. I work on my own cars have tons of tools and have a mechanical engineering degree and know that the chip plugged in or unplugged had no effect

Dude, it doesn't matter what someone "thinks" the dealer may do, use your own judgement. You should have pulled the Edge before letting them have the truck, unless YOU yourself already KNEW they didn't have a problem with it being on there.

Sorry you are in this position now, in the future CYA when in doubt.

i agree, should of pulled it. i took my truck to a dealership i thought i trusted once for overheating. the mechanic came out and blamed in on my grill front. i told him it overheated with out it. he then walks around the truck and says it because the tires are not stock. i told him i also tried that and i also paid them to reprogram my tranny computer for tire size. then to top it off he told me i just abused my truck and that i get what i deserve. this mechanic was about 19 years old fresh out of school. i have always treated this truck like gold and cut the service intervals in half. after him saying that i was headed around the truck to kick his ass when the service advisor jumped in and told him to leave and apologized for his behavior. no matter what you think of the dealership always remove anything they can question.

lesson learned for sure but the point is i tried starting the truck without edge and it did not start. Oh well its only 80 bucks but i will have to send the chip to edge to repair it if in fact there is something wrong.

do you have the Edge currently on the truck?? Edge has a known issue with cold weather.. remove it completely out of the picture for now.

When it gets below 40 or so make sure to mount the Edge box on the upper radiator hose to keep it warm otherwise your truck may just die like you are stating. Edge is working on a new one to combat this issue, but it will be a while for its release.

Also, everyone if you don't know already..if you do any mods to your truck..tires, tuner, etc, etc..make sure to remove it/them before going to the dealer. All they need is one excuse to deny your claim.

Its not the dealers call.
GM P+P manual has specific information on aftermarket installed accessories.
If the accessory is not authorized by GM the dealer cannot charge GM for the repair.

Well GM doesn't know about what the dealer doesn't tell them about, so yes it is the dealer's call. Sorta like when a cop pulls you over for 83 in a 70, but decides to let you go with a verbal warning instead of a ticket.

Funny story Clint

The service advisor probably hi-fived him when you left. $40K doesn't even purchase respect for the punks job security. Now you know why I will not take a position with a dealer. I'd leave in a squad car.

The dealer must disclose this information to GM.

And depending on the department, the officer is required to issue a ticket.

If they deviate from policy, they can suffer some severe ramifications

In my expericance working at the local dealer. It was mostly up to the service manager as to what is covered and what is not. It all depended on how it was written to GM. I work on several modified Corvette's and Supercharged Tahoes "under warranty" it all depended on who the customer was and if he knew the manager.

If the person likes you then the "rules" do not apply. Thats the real way things happen.

And LEO's are required to drive the posted speed limit unless they are responding to an emergency situation. And LEO's are not allowed to use state property (automobiles or other equipment) for personal use. And so on and so on ....... yes sir, everyone follows the rules just because they are rules.

yeah i take mine off when ever i go in for work. thats why i got rid of the overhead mount...i got sick of always having to run the wires up to it..next time just take it off....10 minutes of your time is nothing knowing that they wont make you bend over and grab your ankles on something dumb like that.

no it started when cold ran for 15 min then died. When it was 10* here last month, mine ran for 10 minutes and then died...yes, gelled fuel.

i wonder why the difference in fuels. i was still running summer blend in mine when the temp was -22 here. yes not a type error, -22. i had no problems at all starting or running. maybe our summer blend still has some additives in it. my windshield washer fluid was frozen solid! i was impressed how easy it started. it was not plugged in and the glowplug light was on maybe 5 sec and started on first crank. it didn't idle rough either.

Best thing you can do at this point is pay the bill, smiling the entire time. Then get a Fellow DP member (GM Technician) pull a report (VIN check?) and see if there's mention of your "performance box". If no mention of your performance enhancer, take it off and go to another dealer with your complaint... It's worth a shot. Good luck!

Don't EVER go to the dealer with it on!!! You will lose every time.
