Hi,

I have a family member who is looking at trading off his 96 powerstroke for a 2002 model. I have heard bad things about the automatics that ford uses. Should this be a concern on this pickup, it has 30000 miles.

Thanks,

Justin

I know some of the older trucks had some problems, but as far as i know they made some upgrades to the trans in the 99 model year, Beefed it up (so to speak). The new superdutys are nice trucks, but I love my 95 and had original tranny replace at almost 200,000 miles. Best of luck!

I think after 2000 they stopped using forged rods and went to powdered metal, dunno the exact switchover, pretty sure it is 2000.

The 2002 does have powdered metal rods, but they are only a concern if you want to run over 400 rwhp. The trannies are good to go as long as you don't abuse them. If you plan on doing some performance upgrades, I would definately look into beefing it up. Hope this helps.
