I just returned from taking one of my best friends for a ride in my truck when all of a sudden the check engine light came on and the truck was stuck in fourth gear and would not shift out. So I pulled over and put the gear selector in the lower gears and nothing changed it even stayed in fourth from a dead stop. The truck would also not go into reverse. I then placed the selector in park and shut the truck off 3 or 4 times and the shifting returned completly to normal but the light is still on. Anyone ever have this happen if so what is it.

start saving for a new tranny build, as it is going to do it easier and easier each time you limp it

Funny how they seem to limp when you have a friend in the truck with you!!! I use to do the same thing at the worst times (showing truck off)! One of the best things about a strong transmission is the confidence you get! Good luck....

it limped? I thought that when it limped it had a rev limiter like 2000rpm or so. this would run all the way through the rpm range. But if that's the case it is deffinatly the first time I limped it and it was between the 4 and 5 shift not locked.

threelegs, it can limp in a few different ways. Mine did the same exact thing about 3 weeks ago. Either way stay away from level 5 and be very careful in 4. It will do it again.

I did it on level 3. But thanks guys I thought something was seriously wrong with the truck, I guess I wikk have to put a tranny in sooner than I though and then start adding more power!!:ro)

the stocker isn't dead, but you just need to be more cautious of the power your adding to it. I am in the same boat your in, as soon as the tranny is done, then it's time for some real fun. Another programmer, electric fuel pumps, drugs. Poor Poor truck.

It is very strange, some of the allisons can take it and some can't. I got a weak one .at less than 5500 miles and only 900 miles with the Predator on the 85 hp tune I limped it 3 times .now I'm useing the 65 hp tune and takeing it very easy .the up side ,if there is one is I now get 18.5 mpg mixed driveing . I wonder how long it will take if I now get 2 mpg better fuel mileage to recoupe the cost of upgrading the trans? at 54 I don't think I'm going to live that long .
