I am way pleased with my Tekonsha Prodigy. Easy set up and smooth, strong braking. Jordan Ultima owners swear by theirs, too. Prodigy utilizes electronic decelerometer to activate brakes proportionately to rate of deceleration of tow vehicle. Jordan uses cable connected to brake pedal - the more the cable is pulled, the more it applies the trailer brakes. Both controllers have very loyal owners so I don't think you can go wrong with either one.
Good Luck!

My prodigy will lock up the brakes if I wanted too! I'm very happy with it.

I've got 3 hayes controllers and they work good.
I wouldn't worry about brakes on an 18" trailer http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

I agree with the votes on the prodigy. I pull horse/stock trailers & equipment trailers quite a bit. I have used the Hays in the past & I think the prodigy has a lot smoother braking application no matter how much weight you are pulling. I also highly endorse the idea of getting the quick connect for our trucks. It is WELL worth the mony. For installation instructions, there are many posts on this site & they are what I used to "assist" when I installed mine. It's a very good controler!

Prodigy is what I use. The rig stops the same with or without the trailer attached.

I'll vote for the Prodigy also, there is no controller I know of that's easier to install and set up.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but Prodigy gets my vote also.
