: Any LB7 service manuals available ?
dmaxlover 01-01-2006, 08:56 PM I am looking for a full service manual specifically for the duramax. Something that has everything needed to service, repair, and rebuild the engine completely.
I've looked at helms, but they do not give a good description as to what is all included, or a diesel specific manual.
thanks, John
mightyvh 01-01-2006, 09:12 PM Helms does have the service manual. I have an 2002 and purchased mine through them. At this time I am not aware of anyone else who makes a manual for our trucks...I believe there are line services that you can sign up for but I am not familar with them....maybe someone can chime in about them.
anyway the Helms manual does have the rebuild info etc in it
dmaxlover 01-01-2006, 09:15 PM mightyvh, what does the manual include? Is there enough info. to repair, and rebuild the entire engine?
dmaxlover 01-01-2006, 09:24 PM Is this the one you bought?

mightyvh 01-01-2006, 09:28 PM Yes It has all the info, I believe it is $135. I have seen other manuals (not for our Dmax) that I thought were laid out better but that is personal preference I guess. Anyway there are 5 books for the manual. 8 1/2 x 11 x a couple of inches think each. They cover the sierra and silverado gassers and diesels. Has all the info you need. you just have to hunt around sometimes to find it all. They use to have it on CD rom and I wish it was still available because it is a little easier to search for key words etc. But my manual has worked for me. I still hope to get a manual from someone else just to get a second opinion sometimes - if you know what I mean....Bill

aprr454 01-02-2006, 11:26 AM You can get a complete service manual for the entire truck from a dealer.

How much?
WanaDmxsub 01-02-2006, 12:10 PM The Helms manuals break down the motors.
The Helms unit repair manuals break down the tranny and the transfer case.
If you want to spend more money, buy them from the dealer...but I'll bet that they are identical to the Helms (GM sevice manuals)...
aprr454 01-02-2006, 04:58 PM I think it's around $200.
JakeD 01-03-2006, 10:30 AM I asked the dealer here and they told me that their shop manual is only on CDROM and it's like $10,000 for the set. They told me they couldn't sell me a paper manual just for my truck. So I got the Helms.

They lied to you! You can buy the manual from GMdirect it is exactly the same as the Helms - Get the Helms.
somekevinguy 01-04-2006, 10:14 PM I got the CD-ROM version off ebay for like $20. The only thing I don't like about it is it is really set up for the dealers that have a dedicated computer for it. It is like over six disks and it installs all this crap on your computer like a web server and stuff that start up automaticly when you start your computer. The dealers get updates. I wish I had access to those. I actually have a 2004 and if I remember right mine is only updated to 2003. It covers every car GM makes I think. I haven't used it in a long time so I forget some of the details. I thought it was kind of hard to navigate too. It is nice just printing out the pages you need though and don't have to worry about ruining them. My Honda Jetski service manual is on CD-ROM and that one is set up awsome. I would be willing to sell mine for the same $20 I paid for it. That is if I can find them.

If you do find them ..... I'd be interested :D
I have a dedicated computer for the garage and I don't worry about the garbage a program may or may not install.
