: 03 Tails?
Carver1 12-31-2005, 09:01 PM I was wondering if the 03 3500's were suposed to have the red tail lights, or the amber in the middle?
Mine has the older style. Did someone switch them?
It is an 03 in every other way, but the tail lights have me wondering.
Any help?
JoshH 12-31-2005, 09:30 PM I'm not 100% certain but I believe all duallies have the taillights with amber turn signals.
Carver1 12-31-2005, 10:01 PM hmmm. I never thought of that. Research continues!
hill1430 12-31-2005, 10:42 PM All duallies have the old style tail lights. Could be swapped for the new ones I believe.
TheBac 01-01-2006, 09:53 AM Yes, the all-red Chevy ones will fit fine. Plug and play. Try to get the harnesses with them.
I think CrazyDaze may have got his installed..maybe he'll see this and post a pic.
CrazyDaze 01-01-2006, 10:56 AM Yep...mine are on and they were plug and play. I got a brand new set for $100 shipped with harnesses.
I'll post pics as soon as I get a chance! We have had some snowy nasty weather here and the truck is FUBAR from the Censoreded up roads!
On Edit: BTW...'03 to present lights fit ours. GM used the same junction box for the lights all these years! Makes it an easy swap!
CrazyDaze 01-01-2006, 12:51 PM There are some on E-Bay right now from the same place I got mine!

TheBac 01-01-2006, 01:55 PM Those are both a good deal....
C.A.P 01-01-2006, 02:14 PM don't they have black framed ones and non black framed ones , I thought you mentioned something to me once BAC
Diesel Dragon 01-01-2006, 02:42 PM My 03 had the amber colored ones too.
Put some nice LED taillights in instead of the plain janes.

CrazyDaze 01-01-2006, 04:03 PM Here's some pic's! We're getting more snow today, so I gave up on the washing idea!

Yes. I've noticed that some red tails have a black "frame" around them (like Jeff's in the pic), while others are red. I have no idea why that is. Either way, I still think they look great.
Jeff, they look perfect on your truck! :thumb:

Thanks Tom!!!
The edges are really just red. It's just that they curve in that area and it makes it look black in the pic. I'll bring the dually to dinner next weekend and you and Chris can check them out.

Then how do we explain the white pickups I see with black-outlined tails?
I guess Mountain Jacks better start preparing for us, eh???? ):h

My 2003 taillights had the red around the edges, my 2005 has what appears to be black around the edges.
TheBac 01-02-2006, 11:11 AM Just different designs per model year, I'll bet.
So now there's another way to tell differences between MY's....

After doing an informal study of Chevy/GMC trucks on my route (guys were asking WHY I needed to know what year their trucks were), I've come to the conclusion that 2003 Chevy and GMC tails have a red edge, 2004-2005 have a black edge. So now ya know......

No they will not. Sorry.
Pro400exc 01-29-2006, 04:42 PM you definltey need the harness to convert..
The 03+ srw's come w/ them fancy deals..the 01+ duallies have the ugly ole red and yellow kind.
GMC still uses's uglies...
The newer style has 4 b ulbs...and the harness doesn't just puc h in and turn to snap em inn place...you need the newer harness.....
TheBac 01-29-2006, 05:37 PM Oh, you can make the old harness work. I did on my '02, but it was such a pain, I'd recommend finding the correct harnesses.
You have to trim one of the tabs on the top bulb to get it into the hole in the light. The other two go in ok. The fourth marker light could be fabbed from an old-style marker light socket (the ones with the two ears that use the blade-type bulb), but I could never figure out which wires to attach it to.

Apparently, all the better looks from GM went into the front end of the GMC's and not the rear end. I, however, like the "old style" tail lights with the amber being the best part. You can see amber alot farther than red.

Dually wannabee...
daequitz 02-04-2006, 09:35 AM Can anyone confirm if the newer all red Chevy truck tails will plug n play into my '99 Silverado? They look like they should fit fine?
Unit453 02-04-2006, 11:08 AM Where does that black rim come from? Part of the plastic itself?

If you have one of the NBS '99 Chevy's, they will plug-n-play. They will not work on OBS trucks.
(incase you were wondering, NBS - new body style, OBS - old body style)
Where does that black rim come from? Part of the plastic itself?
The dually have an extra black "trim" around the lights. "Why?" is anybody's guess....maybe to look "more substantial" to match the big-butt look???

Thought so. Thank you!!
I found a couple of pics digging around yesterday, "http://http://chevytruckworld.tenmagazines.com/forums/topic.ten?id=74896&q=tail+lights
