My truck is a 04.5 2500 duramax CC. I have 22,000 miles on it. Installed green keys @ 5000 miles (lifted 1.75") and Rancho 9000 shocks. Install 325-60-18 grapplers on 18x10 weld ET rims at 15000 miles. The truck makes a thumping sound/feel through the steering wheel when turning to the right. Not as noticable going straight or turning left. Thump is more noticable when also going over bumps when the wheel is turned to the right. I removed the tires and turned the bars down a turn. Sound is still there. Is this a sign of my CV joints going bad? Thanks for the help, Troy.

That sounds like your steering shaft and its a very common problem. Take look at the thread below. I had the same problem and replaced mine with aftermarket Borgeson shaft and that fixed it for good! I have been through 3 OEM and GM claims that 2 of those were the updated ones. If they are, they need to go back to the drawing board because none of them worked.

I just saw that thread. Thanks alot. I'll try the dealer once and then do the after market. This truck is junk for 48000 dollars. I have also fought that drone and hydro-boost problem. Thanks for the help, Troy.

Cuttin Up.....what's the quality like on those Borgerson units? Do they still have the slide sleeve like the stockers, or are they a solid design?
What kind of cost are we looking at?

In my opinion its a lot better design, the joints are smoother and much beefier than them OEM. There were no side sleeves just a solid shaft. The only problem I had with it was I had to do some minor fabrication to the actual shaft to make it fit in my truck.
From Borgeson you’re looking at around $201 for just the shaft and $230 for the shaft w/ the vibration reducer on it plus shipping.

For a quality part, thats not a bad price.....esp if it solves the rattle issue.
