: Secret Squirrel
Max Payne 12-29-2005, 11:12 AM I kind of expected to see more posts here. More "hey, try this" or "don't do this" kind of stuff. I know there are several people now building and running tunes of their own. I guess I expected more information to be shared. Is this going to be a "secret squirrel, my tune is better than your tune, but the ingredients are a secret" type thing, or are we going to talk about what works and what doesn't?
a78turbo 12-29-2005, 11:51 AM Was my thoughts also. Have not heard from anyone yet on custom tunes.
Max Power 12-29-2005, 12:21 PM Once the LLY stuff is realeased you will see more action I think. My biggest problem is that it is winter here and we are running winter fuel. Pretty hard to test the big tunes on icy roads. :(
Kennedy 12-29-2005, 04:29 PM The issue that I think we are seeing as that the learning curve can be a bit sharp for some and most are just spending time familiarizing with the product. Add to that the revisions/updates etc being made...
I have a 500 gallon tank full of non winterized Amoco/BP Premier so fuel quality is not an issue here. I treated it with my FPPF and it's good to go. The issue will be finding the time to get on the dyno. Then I just need to wait and see what the guys can get us for a portable loading device so I don't need to do the exchange ECM thing. From there, the "freeware" or "freefile" thing will depend on product sales...
Max Payne 12-29-2005, 04:44 PM The sharp learning curve is a good point. I am finding that out myself:D .
I guess I was hoping to see more of the "I tried this and it didn't work" type posts, possibly preventing any damage or wasted time. I know there are no free meals, I just want to steal a bite off someones plate):h
snowho 12-29-2005, 05:00 PM I have been playing alot and still need a little time before posting. I just don't want to hurt someones truck with what I post. Also I have been getting help through PM and emails from fellow members.

I was thinking the exact same thing.
GMC-2002-Dmax 12-29-2005, 06:16 PM OK,
Here is some starting info.
Read the descriptions carefully for Tables B0727 and B1001.
If anyone needs help PM me your PH# and I will talk you through it

TurboBeagleBuggy 12-29-2005, 06:32 PM JMHO, If the users do some work together it can mean big things. I have asked some questions about gas trucks on EFI's forum and have got no help from anyone over there. I look forward to being able to share info with others, but not sure how helpful that I can be until I get my trans built. I know of a small shop where it might be possible to get some dyno time on a Mustang dyno to test some tunes, but those numbers wouldn't mean much right now because of winter fuel. Three or four guys working together from different areas could make a big difference and the possibilities of competing with each other on the track would slim.
GMC-2002-Dmax 12-29-2005, 06:43 PM I am willing to point people in the right direction, I am willing to send them a small starter tune if they send me a stock tune file. I have sent a file to three members already, but they bought EFI-Live from Trippin......(HINT-HINT)...
I will answer questions if someone asks me for help.
I would hope people will be curious like I was and be willing to fail, sometimes miserably and learn from those mistakes like I did.
I have a folder I created in EFI-Live called the "CLOSET" and it is filled with failures. I also have a bunch of tunes that show a lot of potential.
Learning the tables and what they do is the first step, applying specific changes to those tables to get the desired results is the next step.
The only way you can learn is to take small steps, log the data, analyze it and study it. Creating a MAP file and then replaying the tune so you can see what is actually going on is an important step as well.
:exactly:
Max Payne 12-29-2005, 07:25 PM Thank you, this is exactly what I hoped would start:cool:
Flashscan 12-29-2005, 07:59 PM I think give it a few weeks when both products are out of Beta (LB7 & LLY) and things will start to hot up as more users start to play around and share experiences. It hasn't taken our beta testers long to pickup on the do's and dont's (who got sideways at 70MPH;) ).
Oh, some nice weather might help too, hang on, it's nearly 100°F out here today!. You're all welcome to visit.
However, in fairness you cannot expect a workshop to share the knowledge they acquire tuning.
I know over the next few weeks some new things might start appearing that will help out new users and change the minds of old timers :secret:
Cheers,
Ross

It`s winter here as well, but we had 61* yesterday. But I don't have the EFIlive to play with, so icy roads or not, I can't do any testing.:(
3500dmax 12-29-2005, 08:22 PM Max Payne thanks for starting this thread. Personally I don't even know where to start plus being an LLY owner I am not a Beta tester...I did however already purchase EFI Live from Trippin and I ready to learn. Being that Trippin and I live less than 5 minutes from each other I learn alot from him (thanks) however I can't expect him to hold my hand throughout the process. I'm starting from scratch. I was holding out for the TTS Powerloader but 1.5 years later I couldn't wait any longer. I'm gonna take GMC-2002-Dmax's advice and look at those tables but any other advice is appreciated.

I can't seem too find the tables you mentioned. I have a B0728, and B0721. Do I need the EFIlive hardware in order to see this?
On a side note, I thought we would see screen shots of tables, this would help the dumbies like myself.:)

I have both, but have not found the B0727!
snowho 12-29-2005, 11:07 PM B0727 Is the throttle Base Injection Quantity under Fuel Injection. B0727, B0720 are the tables I have been playing with the most.
Aaron
Trippin 12-30-2005, 01:02 AM I have both, but have not found the B0727!
Go to the navigator near the top left of the page and type in B0727 and then click on the search button.
Make sure you have a Duramax tune open.
GMC-2002-Dmax 12-30-2005, 09:06 AM Learn to use the MAP Files
C.A.P 12-30-2005, 11:23 AM Great Info Here ,

Thanks Guy! Stupid me had the Scan file open. Isn't it something how having the correct file open makes all the difference?:ro)
I'm sitting here looking at the stock file you sent to me, along with one I got off the Flashscan website. (This one claims to be a 100 hp tune)
Very little is different. Just the TPS% 90 @ RPM 1200 through RPM 2200, and TPS% 100 @ RPM 1200 through RPM 3250. (Does this sound right to get 100 hp?) The bigest change is at 3250 on TPS% 100 going from 81 stock to 87 on the 100 hp tune.
Trippin 12-30-2005, 12:50 PM Did you use the "load alternate tune" (ctrl+F11) and the "Summary" (ctrl+F12) features?
hdmax 12-30-2005, 03:15 PM Did you use the "load alternate tune" (ctrl+F11) and the "Summary" (ctrl+F12) features?
No, I could not get it to open due to the EFIlive stating that the other tune was made using different software.
I took advantage of my 23" wide screen flat panel monitor, and opened the two files side by side.
Would you please email to me a different file? (Any Duramax LB7 tune, other then stock) mlucas3@columbus.rr.com
Thanks!
Trippin 12-30-2005, 03:44 PM You've got mail. :D
hdmax 12-30-2005, 05:03 PM You've got mail. :D
Thanks Guy!
But I am still getting the same warning.
Here is what it says.
"G:\ 2002_Chev_Duramax_0000.tun
has a different operating system then the currently loaded calibration.
No comparison will be attempted"
(Where G:\ is the drive I have the files stored on, by the way, I also tried with the files on C drive.)
It doesn't matter which tune I open first, the other one gives this Warning.
Thanks anyway, I guess I have some learning to get done!
Max Power 12-30-2005, 05:19 PM You need newer calbration files. Guy should be able to send you the calibration.
jay p 12-30-2005, 06:18 PM I just got my EFI live and don't know alot yet, but to use the compare they need to have the same OS or you get the error you got. I can send you my stock 2004 if you would like.
Jay
Trippin 12-30-2005, 06:19 PM Mike,
Send me the files you are trying to compare.
Max Power 12-30-2005, 06:51 PM My mistake I was not reading it correctly. jay p is correct. You are probably trying to open up a calibration for comparison instead of just opening the calibration.
Max Payne 12-30-2005, 10:03 PM So far, I have found the comparison function a valuable tool to see what makes a tune tick. It helps to have a variety of different tunes to view. I am still in the "studying" phase. Haven't actually built any tunes yet. When I sleep at night, all I see are graphs and charts):h
rcr1978 12-30-2005, 11:46 PM I got so excited today about this I just couldnt stand it anymore so I ordered one from Trippin. Soon I will be bugging you guys for files also.):h
Elowe65 12-31-2005, 12:55 AM I am in this same exact stage. Logging and studying and more logging...
