: half tons with 6.5
nuthinbutchevy 12-29-2005, 12:57 AM I've seen these 6.5 diesel 1/2 ton's on ebay and around here a dealer has one. just wondering if they were just as reliable as a 3/4 ton with the 6.5. also, why did chevy ever make them with the diesel. my buddy who is a f*** lover thinks it was stupid.

chickenhunterbob 12-29-2005, 01:14 AM Around these parts, K1500 are more common than K2500 (second) and K3500 (a distant third)
I can't imagine the same engine to be less reliable in a 1500 than a 2500, why do you ask?
nuthinbutchevy 12-29-2005, 01:18 AM just wondering. never really saw a half ton with a diesel until i saw one on ebay one time and didn't believe it at first, but then saw the engine picture and it was. also, i was looking to get a new truck and couldn't decide whether i would look for a 3/4ton with a diesel or try my best to get one of these 1/2ton with a diesel in them. i'm only wanting a diesel because i want to be a diesel mechanic and figured might as well get a diesel and have a little bit of experience on them. and i was just wanting some info on them.

chickenhunterbob 12-29-2005, 01:21 AM there are hundreds of thousands of them, maybe we just don't want to sell them.:)
jimmyt83 12-29-2005, 03:47 AM I Have Mine...and There's No Other Way To Say It, But I Love It!!! Never Had A 3/4 Or 1 Ton Equipped With The 6.5. To Compare It To...the 1/2 Tons Still Have 3/4 Ton Suspension, And The Rear End Is The Larger 14 Bolt Rear End. It Sits Taller Than The Gas 1500's And According To The Drivetrain Shop (it's My Understanding, At Least) That It's Got The 1 Ton Rear With Smaller Brakes/axle Shafts...same Engine...lighter Chassis...why Would It Be Any Less Reliable. Seems To Me That It Would Be Last Longer Due To Hauling Around A Lighter Truck From Day To Day. Please, If I'm Wrong, Chime In And Teach Me Something. I Know There Are Some Of You That Know The Specs Better Than I Do.
asnowsquall 12-29-2005, 08:47 AM It's a heavy half in my book. This is with about 3/4 cord of wood. All seats except mine are out. Truck rode great. Love my 1500.

Turbine Doc 12-29-2005, 09:52 AM No complaints with my K1500, that will Only pull 18,000# after a mod or 2
94blazer6.5 12-29-2005, 11:34 AM I've got the 6.5TD in my Full Size Blazer. I done it that way cause I love the Full Size Blazer's, and love to hunt. Use to bow hunt elk in CO. and some of the trials there the trucks would either lose traction since there not much wieght on the rear wheels, sometimes high center (ex-cab or crew-cab mainly), or couldn't turn as sharp as the Blazer, Broncos, etc... Not to mention the MPG. I'm getting 17.5 in town, and 19+ highway. I have yet to see a Blazer with a small bock 350 get that kind of MPG. For that case and I don't know but I would think that any half ton truck with a 6.5TD would get better MPG than the same truck with a V-8 Gas motor.

Docs got the half ton that could.....:ro)
One difference not noted yet is that a 1/2 ton is probably going to have an EGR equipped version of the 6.5. One less thing to deal with if you start out with a non-EGR engine.
edzzed 12-29-2005, 12:24 PM buddy of mine has one and he keeps snapping front end parts 4 wheeling. he's had the same part break like three times. keeps telling me he wished he had bought a 3/4 ton or one ton as the parts are bigger and stronger. keep in mind he is a bit of a nut when it comes to off road. i'd not drive the same trails he would.
nuthinbutchevy 12-29-2005, 12:26 PM i figured the engine would be just as reliable but just wanted some info on things like those little differences (if there are very many). how would you get rid of the egr?

:exactly: that's a BIG Reason. How you drive will make all the differecne in the world. I got over 225,000 mile to date and no real big problems with the front end on mine, beside rebuilding dew to age and 200,000+ miles.
