I've noticed lately that on cold start ups "35 & under" I have been getting a whining/bad bearing like sound or even some how belt related type noise. I crawled under the hood and the noise sounds like it is coming from the turbo. If you feather the throttle a little the noise sort of comes and goes "really kinda of strange". If you shut the truck down it almost sounds like air is being suck in somewhere. After the truck idles a short while the noise goes away, so does the shut down noise. I've haven't noticed any loss of power. The truck doesn't get driven ever day, but I didn't noticed this sound last winter. I have done several searches the past few nights, but none seem to be similar. I've got a lot stuff sitting in the garage waiting to be put on, but don't want to if the truck has to go to the dealer. Am I going crazy? Anybody else?

the start up noises sound like normal vein(sp?) operation of the turbo and the shutdown noise is common for having the EGR blocked.
did you have exhaust and egr blocker on last winter? that might explain that

The truck is unchanged from last winter "should have stated that". The noise is loud almost "squeaky like".

i've had the same noise also, dosent last long maybe a couple of seconds. i did though hear this morning a loud clang noise just before high idle kicked on and noticed a puff of black smoke come out the exhaust. i hope the turbo isnt starting to go bad. :(

since its cold it may just be the belt squeeking, but you said it came from the turbo so I would speculate its the variable vains. It does take a bit for the oil to get to the turbo shaft and bearings when its cold.
I'd say if it gets louder or you start hearing it more to take it in and have it checked. I'm not sure if its still under warranty, but the Duramax motor itself has a 100k warranty.

Yea my same thoughts exactly. Problem is, still to much to learn.
