I have heard this small speaker looking item above the driver's head is an Onstar speaker and also have heard it is a sensor for the auto climate control system.
1-Which is it?
2-I do NOT have Onstar, but do have the auto climate control. A few times, I have heard a vibrating/static kind of noise from it. I thought it was a vibration from the left side of the dash, but I turned off the radio and stopped and could put my hand of this thing and it stopped the noise. What is the source of this noise?
Thanks

Good to know, I thought it was a microphone hooked direct to gm warranty department, guess I can take the duct tape off now.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

What is the source of the noise coming from it? Should I get the dealer to check it for malfunction?

I've heard of cases where the fan or whatever is in there goes bad and is fixed by a trip to the dealer.

I have replaced quite a few of these for a rattle, buzzing sound.I think it is from lint building up on the fan blades causing it to be out of balance.

Why is there just one on the drivers side, shouldn't there be one on the passenger side having the dual climate control? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif
