: Dead 04 Duramax(help)...
rpbdawg 02-29-2004, 07:21 PM I have a 04 GMC Duramax LB7(3000 miles). I noticed a tick in the engine about 2 weeks ago. My dads did the same thing and went away. He has over 50000 miles now. Drove the truck out of town and while going 80 the truck shut off. No mods were on at the time. Driver tried cranking back up and the ruck sounded horrible. Sent our wrecker to pick it up and cranked it up to hear the sound it sounded horrible still. Took to the dealer and they said the injectors were fine but the computer had gone out and had the truck running on 4 cylinders. That they would replace the computer and all would be fine. Well they replaced the computer and it is still broke. Anybody has any ideas?

Horse Trainer 02-29-2004, 07:27 PM 'Hope there were no mods when truck got to dealer.
On the earlier LB7's, the FICM (fuel injection control module) had 2 sides, each running 4 cyls, 2 on each bank. The idea was to balance things out if one part went out. I have no idea what one sounds like in this condition. Maybe this was what they replaced, maybe not.
Max Power 02-29-2004, 07:28 PM The dealer will figure it out. First things first, make sure their is fuel in the tank. Sounds stupid but I see you have a quad programmer and juice. This will throw off the fuel computer and the truck will show it still has fuel and x amount of miles till empty even though you are out of fuel. If there is under 1/4 tank, add fuel first.

I had just filled up. And yes I am smart enough to remove any mods. before I took the truck in. Not to worried about the mods. issue because it is a good friend that owns the dealership and he drove the truck for about 1500 miles before I took over. It had Edge on it and he sells them at the dealership. But I did remove everything but th exhaust.
dmaxalliTech 02-29-2004, 07:44 PM First, never be too confident that your dealer will take your side. I know that there are some dealers out there selling Edge stuff and other tuners. GM has found out on some of them and promptly told the dealer that the warranty on those trucks is up to the dealer themselves, GM will have no part of it. Its only a matter of time before your home dealer is found out. We have stopped selling any sort of aftermarket diesel product to eliminate the dealers responsibility.
Now, on to the subject at hand. The first thing we need to know is what codes are stored. The PCM is the most unlikely cause of this problem. Lots of possiblities but need to know the DTC's to start with on this one. Perhaps a call to the dealer tomarrow will get them tomarrow.
I think the first place I would look, with out having any more info, is at the C103 and C107 connectors, they are the ones used to plug in the OJ. Make sure they are fully seated, pins are not backed out etc. Thats where I have seen issues on OJ trucks doing similer things, not a fault of the truck or the tuner, just a simple poor connection
JRAUDIO 03-01-2004, 01:52 AM I AM REPLYING AS A CONCERNED 04 DURAMAX OWNER, I ALSO HAVE THIS TICKING SOUND ON THE DRIVER SIDE OF ENGINE. DID ANYONE HAVE A SOLUTION TO THE TICKING AND WHY. I WAS TOLD IT MAY JUST BE A NOISY INJECTOR. SOME DO IT AND SOME DONT. I WAS TOLD NOT TO WORRY. PLEASE HELPhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif
Camstyn 03-01-2004, 03:47 AM They've almost all got the tick, no big deal. I don't even notice it anymore, maybe it's gone, but it definitely doesn't cause any problems.
Silveradogs 03-01-2004, 10:11 AM I think it's a "Nervous Tick", new owner anxiety, the truck get's over it in time. You will too! It goes away in time. Chill!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
Kennedy 03-01-2004, 10:17 AM Sounds like possibly a bad batch of fuel...
Don't take this wrong, but are you sure it was filled with diesel and not gasoline by mistake?

problemchild 03-01-2004, 11:23 AM How many 04's is this we have seen have a problem now? Wow Im glad I didnt buy an 04.
dmaxerik 03-01-2004, 11:29 AM Same thing happened to my truck but only two cylinders went out. Happened the night I picked it up at the dealership. The truck didn't break 100 miles when it had to go in. Three days of "diagnostics" showed a poor wiring harness not sending info. Replaced harness and double checked pin connection and have had 12,000 happy miles since.
LESDL 03-01-2004, 03:33 PM Hey Problemchild,
Have you anything positive to say, ever? It's getting kind of boring seeing you make disparaging remarks at every opportunity.

dmaxalliTech 03-03-2004, 07:07 AM I have talked to rpbdawg and the tech working on his truck at the dealership. I am not sure what direction TAC is sending them, but when I talked to the tech, he may not be well versed in the d-max, but he has covered all the basis I could think off and then some when I talked to him. Now TAC has him going on an internal seek and find mission, so hopefully he will come up with something. I have been bit many times be a seemingly easy problem on these.. all you can do is fix it , chock it up in the memory banks for next time. I will be contacting the dealer again Jason if I can think of anything

Thanks for your help. There is some sort of adapter that hooks to the glow plugs that they are waiting on today so the can check come sort of pressure. Just wait and see I guess. I think it is some sort of wiring problem since 4 cylinders just shut down .http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Wacko.gifEdited by: rpbdawg
