: My Dmax = Junk
Gray Max 02-29-2004, 10:02 AM http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif I have had my truck in the shop for 3 Mondays in a row. It's now going in again tomorrow. First time T/O bearing. Drove about 200 miles next week flywheel. Didn't even make it off the lot that time and water pump went out. Picked it up this past wednesday drove it about 100 miles open the hood and have coolant all over the engine. I have spent a lot of time keeping my engine clean and now I have about a gallon of coolant all over everything. I can't believe this truck is this bad. Anybody else have a pos or is it just me???
Max Power 02-29-2004, 10:35 AM I wonder if the problem might be the mechanics working on your truck. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif
Bigf00t 02-29-2004, 12:41 PM I would tend to agree with Max Power,Your truck is only as good as the tech that works on it !!
problemchild 02-29-2004, 01:33 PM That was the truck I was supposed to get. I guess my bad luck is changing.
I too would agree with Max Power.... take it to a different dealer.
Gray Max 02-29-2004, 02:43 PM I also agree that the techs really have no idea what they are doing. I called a different dealer and they told me they would not work on any problem another dealer created. I am sure the tech screwed up something putting the truck back together. This is getting old!!
Voodoo 02-29-2004, 05:14 PM Max Power said it! Try a different dealer.
sdaver 02-29-2004, 06:35 PM make a drop in visit to the general manager and ask for his car/truck till its resloved......works everytimehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif
keystonekid 02-29-2004, 11:29 PM Yep, I go along with the majority on this one, ether take it to another dealer, or if thats not feasible, I would have a talk with the service manger and ask him if the same guy has been working on your truck every time you have had it in, if so, tell him you would like to have a real mechanic to work on your truck this time.
Dmax Tim 03-01-2004, 09:44 AM Since u are in between Columbus, Dayton, Cinncinnati try to find a better dealer.
BTW were is the one u have been using?
We need a list of 'NOT QUALIFIED (competent) DEALERS'
Kennedy 03-01-2004, 10:13 AM You mean it's not 100% useless garbage?http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif
The TO bearing and clutch really aren't Duramax parts. The dual mass system will not stand up to the abuse of a power box...
The water pump, what can I say, must've got a bad one. This is still only a peripheral component.
Don't get me wrong, I know what you are feeling, but to say the DMAX is the problem...
Usually once you start talking Customer Satisfaction Index to your Service Manager...things will happen. Some Service Managers don't care...but most do.
Gray Max 03-01-2004, 11:42 AM I know the Dmax is a great engine but this has been a nightmare getting this truck fixed. I am leaving on a trip to Kansas to pick up trailers this Sunday and I don't know if my 40000 dollar truck will make the trip without breaking down. The dealer is Terry Lee Chevrolet in the Kings Auto Mall near Kings Island on 71. The sales dept. is great and I would recommend them highly, but find someone else to do service on them. If anyone needs a good deal on a Dmax in the cincy area PM me and I will give you the name of the man to talk to. Thanks for the replys.
david b 03-01-2004, 12:34 PM How Many Miles on your truck?? Is it still under warrenty?? I'm not sure how trips to invoke the lemon law?? Just a few thoughts..But you have evry right to feel po'd I know I would... Good luck
Kennedy 03-01-2004, 01:38 PM Sounds like they may have mis-diagnosed the TB/clutch the first time. This can be easy to do. Stiff pedal could easily be thought to be from TB not sliding freely, so change/lube it and try. What were the symptoms?
Don't see how the service dept could be responsible for your water pump failing.
GreenDuramax04 03-01-2004, 03:26 PM I have the same problem.... My dealers sales dept. is great. The service sucks! I have bought 8 new trucks there since '99 and get great deals. I always pay invoice or under, get loaners, etc....
But I will never take anything else there to get worked on. They even mess up on oil changes!

Gray Max 03-01-2004, 04:28 PM I agree the service dept. didn't have anything to do with the water pump issue, but I can't help but think something was put together wrong which caused the leak. I know mistakes happen but I think mine was a rush job. When I went to pick up the truck I checked the coolant and the tank was empty. I went back in a told them they needed to top off the coolant. The tech then proceeds to go mix the dex-cool and then hand the jug to me. I should have laughed and told him to finish his job but I did it myself. Just got off the phone with my dealer. They said there was a " deformed " O ring in the water pump housing that was letting coolant leak. Hopefully I will have my truck for more than 4 days this time. As far as the TB issue, there was a squeak when the pedel was fully depressed and when there was only slight pressure on the pedel. When they replaced the TB it did stop squeaking for about 200 miles. The flywheel had the same symptoms. I have a friend that just bought LLY with a 6 and it started squeaking at 900 miles. Thanks again for the ideas.
socaldmax 03-01-2004, 07:14 PM After reading: "The tech then proceeds to go mix the dex-cool and then hand the jug to me." and "They said there was a " deformed " O ring in the water pump housing that was letting coolant leak."
I don't think it was a deformed o-ring - just a tech who doesn't care to get it lined up right or was in a hurry. Either way, I'd never go back to them for service again.
Gray Max 03-01-2004, 08:07 PM Just got back from dealer and can't believe the poor service. They didn't even clean the coolant off the engine or even so much as top off the coolant. What a joke!!! No more service from them.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif
Cummins12v 03-01-2004, 10:22 PM My friends dad had a truck from the same area (maybe a lebanon dealer) and it had the same problems only the turbo went next. never drove the truck except to pull a large horse trailer. Sold the D max and bought an '04 cummins....
aketay 03-01-2004, 10:42 PM At 7900 miles, one dealer mis-diagnosed a squeak under the hood as the belt tensioner and pulley. They replaced all the suspect parts. After a few trips to my regular dealer, they ended up replacing the water pump at 11,000 miles. Bad from the factory? Wonder how much metal is floating around the cooling system? Sometimes I think I got the lemon with this truck. In fact, as I type this I have a Tahoe LT in the driveway courtesy of my dealer while they track down my fantom seat heater.
rickles04 03-02-2004, 12:20 AM well mine isnt 100% junk just 95 but i still like it
