Just saw an ad on a pull show for a 12kw device that is hooked onto the pto on the allison. It is from realacpower.com. My questions are...1 I'm looking at getting a Suncoast V for my truck what are the chances it has the pto provision (prob. not good) 2. Can a pto be put on a non provisioned allison. 3. Is anyone using this setup or anything similar.
Looks like it would be a great setup for me in the construction industry when there are a bunch of subs on a job site that are already using the one outlet the electrical subs put on the temp. poleCensored Just looked pretty cool. Nate

1. If you are getting a suncoast 5 just tell them you want the PTO gear and they will look after you.

2. Yes

3. I don't know of anyone running it. It's pretty expensive.

If you have a justifyable need for it you should get it and tell us how you like it :D

I was interested in one of those for a while but I really have no need for it. When I was looking around though I just coudlnt' find anyone around here who has one so there was no information I could find besides what's on the site.

The tranny will be first. Putting the power down is my first priority;)

The only problem I see with this is do you/we have enough room between the transmission and the body (floor) to install the PTO? I used to install these, and they are pretty BIG for the room we have. The "compact" models would stick out about 6"-7" from the tranny. You may get it to work if you beat the sheet metal in with a hammer. Looks awful tight. Check on this before wasting money on the sun shell with the PTO gear.

I might be mistaking but I am pretty sure it is driven off a small drive shaft so it doesn't bold directly to the trans. I might be wrong but I thought I saw that somewhere.

There are two types... Direct drive & Drive-shaft drive. The drive shaft type is what I was referring to. It's real simple to install. You use "shim" gaskets to get the proper gear lash (.006 to .012 thousandths lash). You just remove the 6-bolt plate and bolt up the PTO. I'm suprised to hear our alli's don't have the gear in them that the PTO would mesh with. I'm just taking the other thread poster's word for it. I would imagine the driveshaft type is the only type we could use because of clearance issues. Maybe someone will chime in that has installed dump beds on 3500 series. Unless they used the electric hydraulic pump, they would have had to install a PTO pump.

It's raining here, otherwise I would crawl under my truck and get some measurements... I'm curious now.

· GM Duramax Diesel Vehicles with Pickup Beds built before March 1, 2004 are equipped with a PTO gear. After March, 2004, GM pickup trucks do not have a PTO gear.

Nevermind, He's right... I've been ripped. That's pretty stupid on GM's part. How much did they really save deleting that gear?

isn't more of a clearance issue? Doesn't the non-bed version come with the gear? Seems I remember reading that somewhere. I'm sure they saved several million a year deleting the gear on a bed truck.

www.realacpower.com sells the kits. WHen I do the Suncoast IV im putting the PTO gear in just incase I ever need it. I think KillerBee was working on a DIY homemade generator kit too...for much much cheaper!

We have TSC stores (Tractor Supply Company), around here and they sell a couple models of PTO (tractor driven generators). I went to their web site, www.mytscstore.com (http://www.mytscstore.com) and did not see them listed. They do however, run at 540 rpm and are cheap (about $520 for a 7500 watt unit). I don't know what our PTO driven rpm would be, but it may be a good starting point for a DIY.

Why would it cost $1000 to install it? Doesn't that unit just bolt up? Are they afraid to slide under the truck? what gives?

As I researched it a while back, they will let you install it yourself. Their installer is supposed to walk you through. I wanted it, in case of a Hurricane or if I have a job without power. Seems pretty slick. Also it does bolt, install to the Transmission side. When I checked, my LLY had the Gear.

Yeah, but do you really need 12kv? That's enough to power 3 or 4 houses. Stand alone 12kv units run $2500.00+ (starting price for an el-cheapo gas). $4900.00 is crazy. You could buy a real nice portable diesel generator for that kind of coin! 7.5kv is more than adequate (I would think), to run your typical construction site... You could run eveything in your house for sure.

Does the $1000.00 install include installation of the internal gear some of our trucks are lacking? If so, that $1000.00 is not that bad.

No the gear is extra. I guess if I had watered that money tree I could do it:)
