Pray tell, what is the $ amount required when ordering a new truck ?

usually around 500 bucks.

Depends on a couple of things.


1. How well, if at all, does the dealer know you?


2. Is what you are ordering something unusual or something he'd order for stock?


3. Does the dealer actually have a policy on how much is required?


If you know the folks and have done business with them before, the truck is something they would order for stock and there's no policy against it, you might get away with nothing for a deposit.


If they don't know you and it's a stock type item, probably $200.00 to $500.00. If it's something they would not normally stock as was my truck, I had dealers tell me anywhere from $500.00 to $1000.00. The one I bought it from only asked for $500.00, but I gave them a $1000.00.

Zeeb is right on. Mine was $1000.00 but the dealer never cashed the check. When the truck came and I was doing the paper work, they ask if I wanted to use the check or just use a new one for the amount owed.

FWIW ~ can depend on the salesman too. When I ordered my 02 in nov 01, they were scarce and the salesman wanted $4K (read: I donwanna be bothered). The next day, spoke w/a different salesman and he asked $500. So ~ ~

I had to send a check for $100.00 . I bought a truck 4 years earlier and said that the hundred was enough to cover it.

Mine was $200. $4K? I would have laughed in his face!

I paid no deposit.

Was not sure if I wanted to order or not. Salesman priced out the way I wanted it, he ordered it. When it came in, he called and asked if I wanted it. Of course, after I went and looked I had to have it. He knew I would not be able to pass it up. Paid invoice less rebates.

Dealer only wanted $500.00 from me But I gave him more than that. The parts man is a friend of mine so I hope there is no problem.
