: EFILive LLY Release
Flashscan 12-24-2005, 02:47 AM Hi All,
Well, the Beta testing for LLY is nearly complete, we thought we would have it all finished by Christmas but a last minute issue has popped up that we need to address before we commit to another run of CD's.
So, what's wrong?, well, it seems everyone is pushing the Duramax well beyond what GM designed it for. Our beta testers have found (on both LB7 and LLY) that some of the data returned by the scantool simply hits it's limits before the engine does and from that point on they are flying blind.
One example of this is the Main Injection pulse fuel quantity, the data that is sent from the ECM is limited to a maximum of 79.7mm3 (even on a TechII), this is just not enough as some beta testers have found they go way beyond that.
Thankfully EFILive has been down this path before with the LS1 where we can create our own data PID's to log, this includes things that not even a TechII can log!!. We started testing those new data parameters today and it all looks good.
We also had a situation where we had to add in support for some new 2006 LS1 PCM's.
Anyway, we are still hoping to have available for download the LLY enabled update including the additional data parameters for scanning before the year is out.
Meanwhile, one beta tester has had some VERY impressive results playing around with the turbo control tables in the LLY, stay tuned
Cheers,
Ross
_nar_ 12-24-2005, 03:12 AM Good to know you fix it before you release it... :)
coyotekid 12-24-2005, 03:35 AM Definitely cool!
Flashscan 12-24-2005, 04:00 AM I think it's great the beta testers are pushing the envelope beyond what GM expected, thankfully we have a fix.
Cheers,
Ross
GMC-2002-Dmax 12-24-2005, 10:40 AM For the LLY guys that are waiting, please give Ross and Paul your consideration and understanding on this.
The numerous tables that we are looking at and logging with the the scan features are showing capped or limit values.
This can be compared to what an EDGE Box can display on the Attitude. What I mean is that it is limited at displaying the boost number and even though boost may be higher it won't allow it to be displayed correctly.
We have found that some important tables for tuning are also displaying only up to the limit and not above it. So now they are fixing all the table limits with new updates and we need to test and verify them first.
Ross and Paul from EFI-Live are adding full functionality that will allow you to see and record the actual numbers, not just up to the cap that currently can be displayed. They are adding things that will make analyzing logged data from test runs much easier to understand and makes tuning much easier for us all in the end.
Guys that are serious about making power or custom tunes for specific reasons need all the data they can get.
These are all things that a TECH II could never do.
This stuff they are working on will literally blow you away.
The LB7 and LLY beta testers are pushing for a lot and we have been getting everything we are asking for....:ro)
So Please give them the time they need to finalize the last details.
Thanks,
T:cool: NY
BIG DIPPER 12-24-2005, 11:14 AM That all sounds pretty good......especially being able to log the actual numbers instead of the cap.
Can the same thing be accomplished with the Air Meter? I remember some issues with that on someones LLY Twin set-up(IIRC) and some concerns with the same on aftermarket turbos on an LB7.
This is great....long awaited.....great product, support, and no bull**** secrets.
sp33d 12-24-2005, 12:04 PM I must apologize to everyone. Us beta testers are the real reason the software hasn't been released to the public yet. We've been asking for new features and enhanced capabilities (such as this one) from day one and Ross and Paul always have an update for us within 24 hours that has taken care of our requests. The support from this company is unbelievable.
The product is well worth it!
jwfab1 12-24-2005, 12:36 PM Does EFILive utilize a display similar to Edge? Or do aftermarket guages have to be added?
Max Power 12-24-2005, 12:39 PM EFIlive's display is all on your laptop.
Check out their website and you will understand it better.
Trippin 12-24-2005, 12:39 PM EFILive uses a Laptop PC as a data collection device and for changing, uploading and downloading engine calibrations into your vehicle.

BMDMAX 12-24-2005, 03:29 PM These guys definitely rock. The EFI software is sweet and it will certainly be worth the wait.
Max Power 12-24-2005, 03:31 PM I agree. This is some pretty powerful software. The Duramax's future is so bright I gotta wear shades.

OK, I understand that, I have assisted in programming Suburu WRX ECM's.
So you still need aftermarket guages to monitot real time EGT's, Boost ect., other than on a laptop?
Max Power 12-24-2005, 04:36 PM You can view all that stuff real time on the computer but you will also need gauges.
jwfab1 12-24-2005, 05:19 PM Ok, thanks!!!

Or you can data log the info without the laptop, transfer to the laptop, store it and play it back.

Great, keep asking for more, more & more!!!
I'm sure the wait "will" be worth it..................:)
jalanrr 12-24-2005, 09:54 PM Anyone have any dyno numbers they are willing to share yet? :o:

Have you guys quit asking for more on the LB7? Or has it hit the limit?:(
GMC-2002-Dmax 12-24-2005, 11:30 PM Have you guys quit asking for more on the LB7? Or has it hit the limit?:(
We have asked for a lot, I know I have asked for some of the datalogging parameters with the others, and they have delivered sometimes within hours for us.
The product is fantastic, it will blow you away when you really see what it does.

Nearly everything asked for is compatible on both the LB7 and LLY so almost anything asked for by the LLY beta testers is available to LB7 guys and vice-versa.
TA Dave 12-25-2005, 01:37 PM Ross, have you noticed if the 06 computer has higher limits, or more room to play with?
Max Power 12-25-2005, 01:57 PM I doubt Ross has read an 06 computer.
Trippin 12-25-2005, 02:03 PM TTS would be the one to ask about the 06 computer.
hdmax 12-25-2005, 02:15 PM Nearly everything asked for is compatible on both the LB7 and LLY so almost anything asked for by the LLY beta testers is available to LB7 guys and vice-versa.
Sounds great! Now if I could just send this camera and docking station back without my wife finding out. Then I could scrape together the rest and buy this EFIlive tool.:( I already had a good camera, and it was no biggie to get pictures at Walmart. But NO! She thought it would be better if I made the prints myself. (What a waste of $400)
Why don't the women in our lives buy what we ask for?
Max Power 12-25-2005, 04:44 PM Trust me you'll love the Digital Camera too.
Time to pull out the Credit Card :D

I now have two good digital cameras!
Flashscan 12-26-2005, 06:47 PM Ross, have you noticed if the 06 computer has higher limits, or more room to play with?
I assume you mean LBZ?, sorry, I've not even seen one.
Cheers,
Ross
TurboBeagleBuggy 01-01-2006, 03:58 AM :rockit: It Has Arrived :cool2:
killerbee 01-02-2006, 05:39 PM Is there an interface that has "attitude" type versatility for display purposes? Seems the EFILive for all its promise, still could use instrumentation outside the laptop. Besides, now I gotta find something to hook this egt probe up to.
Flashscan 01-02-2006, 06:08 PM There is no instrumentation outside of laptop that I can think of.
One interesting thing though, you can set up the scantool to play sounds once certain parameters are exceeded.
For example, if you were monitoring EGT or Boost levels and you wanted to stay below a certain value the laptop can be set up to play a sound once that is exceeded.
I guess what I am trying to say is you can leave the laptop under a seat and have 4 or 5 different sounds (even sample your own voice) so it says things like "Exhaust Temp too high" etc, pretty cool.
Cheers,
Ross
DuramaxPowered 01-02-2006, 06:11 PM Would an EGT probe for Autometer gauges be capatible or would you have to add a dedicated one for the EFILive?
Flashscan 01-02-2006, 06:27 PM We have not tested 'every' type on the market, but it is designed to accept any standard K type thermocouple. However, you cannot run the gauge and EFILive from the same EGT sensor at once.
Cheers,
Ross
Dr.Diesel 01-02-2006, 06:57 PM One example of this is the Main Injection pulse fuel quantity, the data that is sent from the ECM is limited to a maximum of 79.7mm3 (even on a TechII), this is just not enough as some beta testers have found they go way beyond that.
Sorry Guys, I am not a Duramax guy, but the main injection fuel quantity is maxed at 79.7mm? I thought to make 300HP the main injection quantity was in the 90 range stock?
What am I missing?

I already have too many voices in my head.

Internally the ECM is still processing beyond 79.7mm3, but it only ever reports to the scantool a maximum of 79.7mm3, so you're not missing anything, the scantool is :)
Cheers,
Ross

Thanks, so since the stock GM programming is over the 79.7mm3 this problem is some GM ECM/firmware/techII bug?
DURAtotheMAX 01-02-2006, 08:54 PM something about the 8-bit binary code limits...Ross would know for sure and be able to explain it much better than me..
Flashscan 01-03-2006, 01:40 AM It's not really a bug as such, GM probably did it for communications speed. They limited the size of the mm3 data sent to the scantool to 8bit which can only report back 79.7 as it's maximum value.
For normal dealership useage with TechII that would not be a problem.
Cheers,
Ross
