: Recommendation for Programmer?

I'm not looking to smoke the tires or race, but a mild, safe increase of power would be fun and add more value to an already expensive truck!!

Do you knowledgable guys have a recommendation, based on what's been on the market in the past, for a guy who wants only to use a level 1 or 2 power increase with the most chance of a small fuel economy increase cruising with a light foot, safety for engine and trans, and ease of putting the programmer on and off the vehicle for warranty repair purposes, etc. There are so many to choose from! Edge, Bully Dog, etc. I've got an LBZ in transit so I'll be waiting for a few months before I want to buy and use one anyway!

Thanks in advance for any advice! Please be objective!

:thankyou2

The only programmer released so far for the LBZ is BullyDog power pup, they are suppose to release the triple dog in Jan. maybe. Edge, Banks, and some more are in the develoment stage for 1st qt. of 2006, maybe.
The computer in the LBZ and 2006 LLY are EC35 32bit computer chip which is a new animal. I believe the previous control was a 16 bit computer chip. The injector pressure has been raised from 23,000 to 26,000, a totally new turbo with variable vane instead of the waste gate on previous motors, so the have several variable to work with that are new. Hope this helps, last week people were just starting to get the pup and they are cautiously trying and will be making posts. I am sitting on the fence, because I wonder how much the Allison Transmission (torque convert especially) will handle semi-safely. Just my .02

Thanx for the response, Crash! I'm aware most new LBZ models aren't out yet.

What company do you think made the programmer that best fit my needs for the LLY? That company will probably make the best one for the LBZ when it's new model comes out! Criteria: Level 1 and 2 use with safety for engine and trans, easy installation and removal, and and best fuel economy with a light foot?

Thanx

This could start a fight, because everyobody has an opinon and different application. They are all pretty good IMHO as long as you practice moderation. I lean toward the Edge personally. My thoughts are that programmers will start to "mature" about mid-year 2006 with improving tweaks thru the rest of the year. The only problem is I want one the day I bought my truck in November 2005. The LBZ package from the factory is similar to performance of earlier model LLY with a modest chip helping IMHO. The good thing about this post is it will possible bring some vivid discussion on brands of programmers. The trouble is until the vaporware becomes reality and is tested fairly, nobody really can answer this question truthfully.

It's too bad you have to even think about, "this could start a fight". Life's too short to think about guys who will jump on your back on the forum for you opinion.

I'm not going to get one until after a good break in period any way just to be cautious. I read the installation info on Edge last night and they seemed to have a sensible attitude. I'm thinking more into the summer to get past the bugs, sort of like not getting the first LBZ's! I'm wondering if you really need the EGT gauges etc. if you just run level 1 or 2 and are not towing and driving like an adult? If I have to worry about frying something at level 1 or 2 without gauges (non towing) I don't think I'm interested in the risk of the product! The LBZ runs pretty nice stock! I'd probably choose level one or two based on mileage on the highway at 65 to 75 and let it alone. I guess we'll have to wait to see what comes out of the vaporware!

Thanx for the response! :)

I think the Edge EZ Juice is fairly cheap and adds reasonable power without worrying about breaking other parts.

I had an Edge when I had my 03. Its as good as advertised, and in most trucks gave more performance than advertised.

Plus its EZ in and EZ out for dealer trips. Several of the participating dealers on this site sell them, and most are really good people that will bend over backward if you have any questions/problems.

When it becomes available

Sounds good thanks for the reply!

OOooh! I like the mpg increase! Is that on an LBZ or LLY? What mileage did you get on the highway? Is it easy to take on and off for dealer warranty repairs?

Thanks for the reply!

I'm thinking about waiting to get a triple dog when they come out. I hear you can go online and download updates for it. I also plan to install gauges so that option of the edge isn't a big draw for me. Also the option to recalibrate for tire size and the ease of install/removal. That is my opinioin. FYI the edge can display corrected speeds, but will not recalibrate your speedometer. I don't think they read DTCs either.

Any opinion whether or not you need gauges if you (1.) ARE NOT TOWING, AND (2.) STICK TO LEVEL ONE OR TWO on most programmers, and (3.) DRIVE LIKE AN ADULT not flogging it constantly for long periods of time! I just want a few extra horses when I floor once in a while for 3 or 5 seconds and maybe a extra one to three mpg when cruising at 65 to 70 without needing to install gauges to feel safe! Is that possible??

So, watcha think programmer experts?

The first thing i would get is gauges!! I dont know about you but if i am putting more stress on my engine and tranny,i want to know whats going on.Then you can mess around with the higher settings, and know what kind of temps your running and when to back off.

This thread has been very informative so far. I also have an '06 LBZ and looking for safe and easy to install hp/mpg gains. I will definitely wait a few months for more programmers to come out. I will do the break-in and exhaust in the meanwhile. These trucks are sick and the right programmer will surely do wonders for them.
