: LLY Juice???
seedguy 12-22-2005, 10:57 PM I had my Edge Juice w/Attitude (Version 1.2) off recently for some service work at dealer. Since I have had truck back last few days, the power seems to be about same as before with the Juice on the truck. The shifting is much more consistent and firm without the Juice and there is obviously less smoke on acceleration. MPG seems to be the same.
The LB7 was outstanding with the Juice, but since I have had the LLY w/ Juice I have been somewhat disappointed with performance. Shifting is a little erractic and smokes like crazy at any level. The truck was quick at different times but never consistently. On Attitude (Level 5) 1/4 mile was around 17 sec and 0-60 was 7+ sec, not impressive. I was hoping for more seat of the pants response.
I don't mean to start a big argument about the LLY engine, just wondering about the Juice w/LLY. Maybe a Predator or Wester's would be a better upgrade? I like the Attitude and Edge is a great company, but the truck just doesn't act consistent with the Juice on it.
Merry Christmas!
briano 12-22-2005, 11:03 PM if the power is the same with or without the juice on then either you are running in level 0 or something else is up.
it should be a night and day difference. I agree stock that mine also shifts smoother and less smoke, but its fast as hell with the edge.
seedguy 12-22-2005, 11:14 PM I ran the Juice for 5 months on current truck and it made the truck kind of erractic, sometimes fast, sometimes jerky shifting, and always lots of smoke. Always was in level 2-3 and up to 4 when highway driving unloaded. Never felt much difference between 2 and 4.
The LB7 truck was totally different, the Juice was a MUST in it- better MPG, better shifting, and fast as hell off the line. Easily chirped the 285's in 2nd. My LLY just doesn't have that power off the line and maybe it won't. The LLY feels strongest in the midrange and that is where I do miss the Juice right now. I don't miss the erractic shifting in town, however.
I will put the Juice back on soon. I just wonder if I need to add something else to get that bottom end power that the LB7 had w/Juice on 4. Don't want to put any more money out, but would like to enjoy the truck as much as I can within reason.
briano 12-22-2005, 11:27 PM what low boost setting are you using on the Attitude? default is 0.. level 5 will give you more low end response, but more smoke as well.
seedguy 12-22-2005, 11:35 PM Braino,
Thanks for the quick responses. I have played with the low boost, basically left it on the highest setting (5), still nothing impressive. I don't mind the smoke if I am really moving, but feel like "a lot of smoke and not much fire" sums up my opinion of the current setup.
I have almost 9K on the truck, should be getting better... I hope. I may contact Edge to see if there is anything they could recommend. The guy that bought my LB7 Edge keeps thanking me, but I won't race him because I am certain he could beat me, badly.
Exhaust is next step, Magnaflow turboback is in sitting in the shop. It should help but not like the plug-in parts should. Predator seems like it may fill in the weak spots but I don't want the update problems. Edge has us all spoiled on good service and support.
briano 12-22-2005, 11:41 PM what about defueling between shifts? how do you have that set? When I have fueling enabled it shifts rather slowly and more smoother. I use defuel on all locked shifts and it shifts instantly and I can spin in second gear with no effort... your issue just surprises me...
seedguy 12-22-2005, 11:53 PM That is one setting that I think might make a difference. I haven't found the sweet spot for that adjustment (have tried all 3 settings). I will try it again as the tranny relearns with the Juice.
I have a long road trip next week with the trailer and would like set the Juice to see what it will do again. Lately, lots of short trips and winter weather both prohibit much learning about performance of the rig.
What does stacking do to the performance of the Juice? I am not looking to truck pull at the fair, but would like to get the MPG and the low end to improve. If the reward is there, I would be willing to ask Santa Claus for something else this year.:D
blown65 12-23-2005, 12:10 AM I had my Edge for about 10k miles on my 05. Made good power, but like you the shifting was terrible with it for me. The predator and Banks was quite an improvement for me. (seperate installs, not stacked)
BigShrimpah 12-23-2005, 03:30 AM if you are running 17 second 1/4 mile on level 5 something is very wrong, because I ran a 16.58 bone stock
yitsock 12-23-2005, 09:07 AM You sure the engine temp was up to allow the juice to be turned on? I know in the winter 1/2 the time my edge isn't on at all because engine temp isn't up to 180. I thought 1.2 changed that to 175, but you might not be there unless you were driving around for 10-15 minutes or so on the highway.
I just put in a boost stick and that really seemed to help the low end.

HUH???? I ran 14.46@ 93 With edge/*** 5/5 no defuel and a 4inch with no cat! Somethings wrong with your truck bud!!
Kennedy 12-23-2005, 10:58 PM Level 5 is too much for the stock transmission. You will get backdown due to slippage. Also, if the EGT limit has not been defeated...
Juice with BS is on my favorite list for the LLY.
SBCNX20 12-24-2005, 10:05 AM I know thats how I bought myself a ATS! It lasted 20k though!! LOL
seedguy 12-24-2005, 10:32 AM Again, don't want to start the rant about LLY vs. the LB7. I ran the Juice continously from July til last week (level 2/5 - 4/5), got operating temp usually at 192 running. It did add some power in the mid range, but would not break the tires loose, even brake torqued (I don't do that generally, just trying to see if it would improve launch).
The smoke was much worse than the LB7, at any level but didn't get the power to go along with it. It just was very unpredicatable whether you would have the power from a stoplight and who knows whether the tranny would shift like it should.
I have two neighbors with similar setups and have seen similar results. One added Predator and said with the Juice removed, MPG improved and low end was better (seat-of-pants).
Going to do the exhaust in next few days, hopefully will see some improvement. I love the truck and want to make it run like I know it should.
Maybe should have asked Santa for an EFI Live or Predator?
turbo-max 12-24-2005, 12:35 PM my fuel filter was dirty, ans it ran like ass with the edge on anything over 0/0...untill i put in a new filter...then 2nd gear chirps like a mofo
bmercer007 12-24-2005, 07:00 PM Add a boost stick! That's the way to make the edge come alive in the LLY! That's the only way to get good low end boost!
SBCNX20 12-25-2005, 09:32 PM Guys hes got to have some other issue here! Hey seedguy are you sure its for a LLY and not an lb7 ? It just sounds to me that something else must be wrong! My edge is by no means perfect but ive had none of the symptoms he's listing.
seedguy 12-26-2005, 09:51 PM Yes the truck is an LLY (2005 model year, cat conv. in midwest, exhaust smells funny, got the window sticker, etc.). Fuel filter is new and air filter is clean and free of obstruction.
I put the Juice back on today. I drove about 2 hours (90 miles) total and decided to do the performance tests again when I got near home on a desolate road.
0-60 avg. 8.4 sec
1/4 mi. 16.7 @ 86 MPH
Dry, flat blacktop road, launch at 1200 RPM with brake, still no tire spin.
Set on 4/4, defuel 4-5 locked shifts
Truck seems to surge/hesitate at higher RPM and feels the need to almost redline between shifts (about 2800). My old LB7 with Juice on 4 would be stronger when you let it shift, would regain power in the teens(then it would almost snap your neck!). This truck does not at all, feels like needs to wind out to gain power.
I can tell that the Juice is on, smoke is back, and power surges on acceleration but only in the 1500-2000 range. Once you think it is going to really go it seems to lag in the 2K+ range, then it shifts and seems to be less encouraged in the next gear.
Don't think anything is really broken on the truck, just lackluster performance from what should be a very exciting setup.

Did you run this time with or without a built tranny?
seedguy 12-26-2005, 10:24 PM Did you run this time with or without a built tranny?
With those numbers, I don't think the tranny is the limiting factor on my truck. I wish it ran 14 sec, I would just enjoy the speed and take it easy on the OEM trans.
SBCNX20 12-27-2005, 06:15 PM Sorry seed I think you misunderstood me, what I should have asked is are you sure that the edge you have is for an LLY?
seedguy 12-27-2005, 09:54 PM Yes, it is for LLY, bought new in the box, clearly states for LLY, latest version 1.2 purchased in July 05. Sorry for the confusion.
OKRED 12-29-2005, 09:35 AM Get a Boost Stick and HANG ON! Don't run over level 3 or ya limp the tranny. This made mine like a new truck. MBRP 4'' Stock Air Box.
