...not where you thinking.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Wink.gif

I'm looking to install Airlift Superduty air bags on my truck. The shop I went to normally works with Firestone equipment, and called thier supplier who said I needed a minimum of 8" clearance between the inside of my rear tires and the frame. My 285/75-16 BFG TA's on 4.625" backspace Centerlines only leaves me with 7".http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif

Anyone runng Airlifts please chime in and let me know if this is an issue. I looked at another 2500HD with Firestones, which mount in-line with the leaf's which is a foot or more from the tires. What is it about the Airlifts's that require this distance? Or did the supplier not know what they were talking about.

Thanks,

Doug

I have an answer for you if you are interested in running Firestone's. My problem was I have a B&W Turnover ball so my brackets couldn't be mounted to the side of the frame very easily. I called several places and they said it couldn't be done without a special made bracket. I then called Firestone direct and there kit for a 2002 2500HD is part #2250 and it mounts directly under the frame rail in place of the max load stop or jounce stop. My problem is solved and I am installing my bags on Saturday as soon as I figure out where to mount the compressor. The very helpful members at this wounderful site are giving me soom good ideas on that topic I started.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

Hope this helps and I will be posting a message under the topic I started on where to mount the compressor as soon as I complete the install on Saturday.

DMax_Doug,

I think your shop has your truck confused with another year. I had Airlift's on my '02 8.1 and now have them on my '04. On both trucks, they mount between the frame and bump-stop pads. I also have a set on my '86 K20 work truck, and those do need clearance between the frame and tire since they mount on the outside of the frame. Have your shop double check the part #'s or go to www.airliftcompany.com (http://www.airliftcompany.com)

I don't think they understand what your wanting or something. I've got "Airlifts" on a '02 3/4ton and its mounted inside the spring on the jounce perch and bolted up directly under the frame.

I have the Air Lift Super Duty's on mine and I'm running 315/70R17's on the H2 wheels which have 5.5" backspacing. No clearance issues and I doubt anyone has a setup with more wheel backspacing than this.

Thanks Guys,

I think Josh hit it on the nail head. I'll get the correct PN from AirLift's website and go ahead and have it ordered and installed.
