Hi, I'm new here.

I have a 2005 Silverado 2500HD LLY Crew Cab SB. I'm interested in getting a larger capacity tank for long distance driving. Anybody have any suggestions on tanks or issues with larger tanks?

Thanks.

I have a 04.5 3500 and have a Transfer Flow 56 gallon tank.
It has worked well for us when we travel pulling a 33 foot Excel fifth wheel.
I can go from Fremont Ne (close to Omaha) to Sterling Co. before I fuel, although I stop and fuel somewhere along the way anyway.

They are pricey but well made!!

I installed the RDS 90-gal in the bed Combo Toolbox/Fuel tank with their new $50.00 gravity feed system and its the best investment I ever made, now before we take a trip I go to the AAA web site and check out which states have the cheapest diesel fuel prices and plan my stops to take advantage of them.

Several on this site have gotten a "supertank"-- OEM replacement. Mine is 65 gal and I'm very happy with it. Doesn't take up any bed space, and nothing to mess with-- just fill it like OEM and OEM gauges work the same-- only 1/2 tank is now 30+ gallons. Search this site for "supertank".

I had Transfer Flow put the 45 gallon tank in which is what the CC / SB will take from them.

My last rig was an Excursion and I got used to that 44 gallon tank.

We tow a lot and I figure the less I have to pull off for fuel the less likely I am to have an accident.

Fuel gauge is off but, love the extra capacity and range.

Hello, I have been thinking about a larger tank and am wondering how much of the 56 gallons of fuel is usable? How much fuel do you add when the low fuel light comes on?

Thanks, Louis

When my 53 Gallon Aero tank shows E I have 3 gallons left. The most I've added is 50 gallons.

I bought a RDS 60 gallon tool box/tank combo from Northern Tools and a Facet electric fuel pump from JC Whitney. Total cost including shipping, fuel pump, fittings, etc was $750. Mounted the fuel pump switch with a BIG red light on the dash. The fuel pump discharge line is tee'd into the OEM filler pipe. When the gauge shows about 1/4 tank, I just turn on the pump and it fills the OEM tank. Turn it off when over 3/4 tank. Takes about 30 minutes to bring it from 1/4 to full. I also put an extra tee in the OEM filler pipe and ran a return line back to the tank incase I forget to shut the switch off when full. I also put a ball valve in the tank drain fitting with about 24" of fuel line attached to it. This can be used in the event you have to drain the tank some day, or more importantly, if the fuel pump quits, you can stick the end of the hose in the fill pipe and fill the OEM tank by gravity.
