: * If you have a new Crew Cab Read this*
Voodoo 02-27-2004, 07:59 AM Well I was cleaning my truck and found my floor sopping wet behind the drivers seat. I started to look into the possible cause and found where the water is coming from. It appears that someone at GM forgot to install the rear "Pressure Relief Valve" for the cab. The worst part is my 2-year old son kept saying I smell something, and I also would smell fumes in the cab once in awhile. This all caused buy a missing $17.00 part. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif
Anyway took it to the dealer and they ordered the part it. I spent the evening pulling up the rear seat and drying the carpet and sound deadening mat for 3 hrs.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif
Here are some pictures of the location. Missing Pressure Relief Valve Photos (http://www.planetzero.cc/2500hd_relief_valve.html)
Oh and I still love my truck
maynard9089 02-27-2004, 08:26 AM Voodoo- Sorry about your problem. Pretty serious when you think about the fumes. Was the hole punched in the cab wall? Is that why the floor was wet? I'll be sure to inspect mine when it gets here.
Heathen 02-27-2004, 08:53 AM Looks like you might of got a truck built on a Friday or a Monday? Thanks for the info I will be sure and look at mine.

If you fold your rear seat down and lift a small flap against the cab you will see a black air duct, that goes to the outside of the cab. My duct was there but the releif valve was not. The valve has a rubber seal (like a check valve) to allow air to exit when you close your doors etc.. but keep water and some air out of the cab.
Timing is uncanny... last night I had my fingers in mine to see if I could get an air hose through it. Mines there.

I would of had the dealer dry out your carpets, I think for 40G a carpet detail should of been offered to you !
Voodoo 02-27-2004, 11:57 AM I didn't want to sit overnight that way since it was 4pm when I brought it by for them to look at. Plus I'm so darn picky about my truck I wanted it right.
Anyone know how that part is installed? I would guess it just snaps in some how.
problemchild 02-27-2004, 11:57 AM Tell them you saw black mold under the carpet. They will hazmat your truck and you'll get a new one.
maynard9089 02-27-2004, 12:00 PM Yeah but then you would have to swap out that beautiful lift kit. Not worth it. I'd try for a new carpet though.
Blue Max 02-27-2004, 01:23 PM The pressure relief valve probably blew out due to the high altitude of your truck kind of like the pressure in an airplane. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif Edited by: Blue Max
John R 02-27-2004, 02:23 PM <DIV>All the cab configurations have these vents, they used to put them in the doors, don't know why they put them in the back of the cab but they do.</DIV>
<DIV>It's part of GM's flow through ventaltion.</DIV>
RonJT 02-27-2004, 04:29 PM Voodoo,
Thanks for the information. I have also noticed diesel fumes in my CC--only while stopped at a light --or even right when I start up.
I will check to see if mine is there.
Ron
smshiver 02-27-2004, 06:13 PM I agree with maynard9089. The dealer should get you new carpet. It's going to take you an entire summer (or longer) to get the entire cab dried out. As someone with asthma, I also would make a fuss about mold, too.
LARSONEM 02-27-2004, 09:11 PM That pressure relief valve basically has like some rubberized/felt flappers in it. I pushed the coax for my CB antenna through mine and mounted the antenna in the stake pocket directly behind the cab.
Voodoo 02-27-2004, 09:56 PM Thanks guys, I did get the carpet all dry, it was only under the rear seat on the drivers side. I un-bolted the rear seats and lifted them, I was able to then put a fan and hair dryer to it. It took a few hours but was well worth the time it took. I'm happy it's dry now. I have tape over the vent outside untill that part comes. I'm going to have them note on the R.O. that if smells I want it replaced.
Blue Max,
Maybe they have an Aircraft grade vents for me.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
DSTRBD 02-27-2004, 11:30 PM Voodoo- Thanks for the info. I will be picking mine up next week. Gonna have to add that to the long check list!
TheChevyHDMan 02-29-2004, 09:19 AM I think these cab vents are great. At least I dont have to roll down my window to close my door like I have to in my 98 Cab/Chassis.
LarsonM, I ran my coax for my Cb through the vent also, But found it alot cleaner looking bringing through the headliner to the High mounted stop light. AT least cleaner looking if running a roof mounted antenna.
My brother once bought an S-10 in 1988 That had GM badging on one side of the truck And GMC badging on the passenger side. I guess were all just human.
Bill
Voodoo 03-04-2004, 09:11 PM Well I went to get the part put in and all the parts were not ordered I guess. The dealer called GM and they are unsure of what parts are needed or missing. Anyone have a picture of the parts needed?
My dealer is doing all they can, GM just has no clue. Putting tape over the vent is getting old.
socaldmax 03-04-2004, 11:10 PM I'm running my XM antenna cable thru the vent on the PS. We had the first rains in SoCal since I got the truck in Nov '01 (!!!) and my carpet was wet back there. Apparently the truck was parked facing downhill and the cable kept the vent open and fed water in.
I'm going to change my cable routing to come in thru the high mount brake light and silicone it.

It's amazing how much water get in therehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif. I want to wash my truck but it's more work to keep the water out than wash the beasthttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif.
rickles04 03-05-2004, 11:29 AM GOOD OLE AMERICAN LABOR AT 26 BUCKS AN HOUR.....NO WONDER RICE ROCKETS ARE SO POPULAR
maynard9089 03-05-2004, 03:19 PM rickles must be an idiot if he thinks cars would be cheaper if wages were cheaper. Profits would just be larger! The cost of labor on a new American car is less than 5%. GM and Ford make profits exceeding $10k on the larger SUV's. What do you do for a living rickles? Obviously it must pay well since you can drive around in a $45,000+ truck. Alabama knows how important good paying autoworker jobs are. Thats why they gave everything but their mothers to bring in Mercedes. I lived in Tuscaloosa for two years while the MB plant was being built and saw what the state was willing to do to get it done. MB built there because it is a "right-to-work" state. Those workers were not union originally and those MB trucks sold for over $40k. Why? They couldn't strike and the line was a mile long with people waiting to fill their shoes. It's the American way. Like it or leave it!

You could also put a drain loop on the antenna cable. Run the antenna cable lower then the vent before it goes into the cab this will allow water to run off the bottom so it can't follow the wire into the cab.
Turfmower 03-05-2004, 07:08 PM ....NO WONDER RICE ROCKETS ARE SO POPULAR
I would never own piece of JAP CRAP
Turfmower:
Does that include Isuzu designed Duramax engines?http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
maynard9089 03-05-2004, 08:54 PM Designed and built are two differant things.
CMC-GMC 03-05-2004, 08:59 PM voodoo.
You've done more to that truck in two months than I'll do to mine in 10 years... nice ride.
sorry to hear about the water and I'll be checking my in the morning. I figure since we just had three good days or rain and I haven't noticed anything I'm hoping it's there.

ripper 03-06-2004, 12:29 AM Hey voodoo what kind of mileage are you getting with your setup. Your truck looks awesome.
Voodoo 03-06-2004, 08:31 AM I did get the part yesterday but I think it's the wrong part again, this one fits but looks different than the vent on the other side. If anyone gets a chance to look at their vents, I'd like to know if the left and right side are the same.
ripper,
Mileage is ok I regeared so it helped, The DIC is giving me about 13.8 AVG (all stop and go) but I'm sure it's off some. I haven't done any real fuel numbers yet. I've worked all the drive line issues out and the only glitch left is the ABS warrning every now and then, just need to reprogram for the gearing/tire combo and that will take care of it. Just waiting for the LLY mods come.
HC130 03-07-2004, 08:23 PM I would never own piece of JAP CRAP
I'll be the first to tell you that the hype of being "politically correct" has, at times, gone definitely overboard. (Handicapped vs. Differently abled - - Give me a break!!)
But in the same voice I ask you for some sensitivity. Turfmower, since you are new to "The Diesel Place", based on your March 5, 2004 registration date. I'll give you a little heads up, this awesome forum is made up of a great bunch of informative and well-meaning people. People, I mean White, Black, male, female, and even Asian.
Don't hold back. Do voice your opinion. That's your FREEDOM and that's what I fight for.
I AM ASIAN.
I am also a pilot for the U.S. Air Force. I fly a $18 million dollar airplane around to protect your very FREEDOM and in return all I ask is for a bit of sensitivity to those around you.
Voodoo, sorry about detracting from your post and thanks for the insight on the valve situation. P.S. Nice Truck
